On November 21, 2000 - the Montana Wilderness
Association, Great Burn Study Group and the
Predator Conservation Alliance filed a lawsuit to
have all motorized recreation access removed from
the only alpine lake in the Clearwater National
Forest that still allows motorized access. This
is part of an on going effort of the wilderness
advocates to create a corridor with a buffer zone
that will link the Salmon-Selway Wilderness to
the Selkirk Wilderness for the grizzly bears and
other predatory species.

Because of the impending lawsuit from
environmental groups against the Bitterroot and
Clearwater National Forests to close Fish Lake to
motorized access, the BlueRibbon Coalition has
agreed to intervene on behalf of the Clearwater
Road & Trail Committee.

If the environmentalists win the lawsuit - the
elderly and disabled along with other motorized
recreationists will no longer have access to Fish
Lake. All of the mitigation and improvements made
by the local folks that use and enjoy the lake
will be removed. This lawsuit has far reaching
implications.

If you feel this is wrong as we do, please help
us fight to maintain the off-road motorized
access to Fish Lake by donating to the BlueRibbon
Coalition Defense Fund earmarked "Clearwater
Defense."
