: Weekend update: 25-26 July
SSGTWC 07-27-2009, 07:36 AM Spent Sat. looking for that little mutherfuckincocksukinsonofabitchin brass fitting for that hunk of shit Holley carb on the 304. :mad3: Nobody around the Manhattan area had the damn thing. That was the culprit to fuel spraying everywhere when I had to get it off the trailer last weekend.
Sunday, I still worked on getting the shop cleared some and organized. Managed to get my welding bench cleared, and tools hanged. Also killed the biggest Brown Recluse I've seen yet. :shaking:
Mechanos 07-27-2009, 07:42 AM Pulled the trailer/camper down to the Current River on Thursday. Drank beer, floated on tubes, drank beer, canoed, drank beer, rode on the jet boats, drank beer, ate some killer food, drank beer and drank beer.
uglyscout 07-27-2009, 08:09 AM It was 95 degrees here, so I spent the whole weekend in the shower with my wife............................
Tiling. :flipoff2: It actually reallly, really, sucked. :shaking: I will never do a tile shower again, until I can pay someone do it.
Sunday afternoon I did spend a few hours digging my Scout out of the pile of home construction crap in the garage.
RustoleumWhite 07-27-2009, 09:54 AM Walked by my (scouts) a couple of times, didn't even as much as touch one however.
Did put some Slime in the front tires of the cub. Battery was dead again so I didn't start it. Killed a wasp nest I found in it (big one).
It was [only] high 80's around my parts... still too hot for me. Spent most the the days indoors. Spent a few hours both days doing some maintenance on my rental that I've needed to do for a while. I got cool tenants so I didn't mind doing some upgrades for them. They got a new range top, range hood, kitchen hanging light, fixed the kitchen fan/light and a new faucet for the bathroom. They talked about doing some painting too :grinpimp: (that means I don't have to do it!).
Did take some extra time yesterday (in the heat) to douse the back storage yard with Roundup. I've been majorly slacking on the maintenance the past couple years, so there is a fair amount of weeds in the gravel and drive now. Need to do some serious cleaning... some day. For now I just went to town with the killer.
Did however make arrangements last week/weekend to buy a pile of tube.... I'll be poor again till I can fire sale some stuff. Bought the Ms. a new sparkly as well.... made her cry (in a good way!)
Buck Dodson 07-27-2009, 10:03 AM Finally had Dad's memorial service after nearly a month.
Appearently my two brothers and I had a pent up urge to drink and bark at the moon like wild dogs:D
All our kids now refer to the three of us as the "Druncles":beer::beer:
I also got in the last of the front 3 link components, so I can now feel completly guilty about not starting the project.:shaking:
SCOUT1ton 07-27-2009, 10:10 AM Trying to tie up all the loose ends for the trip out west. Mounted extra trailer spare. Installed portable tankless hot water shower and test ran shower with 45psi diaphram pump. Worked like a champ!! :grinpimp: More to come on it after the trip and I will give the families real world reviews. Sqirted some rattle can red primer on all the new to me sheet metal.
ChiScouter 07-27-2009, 10:18 AM Worst home improvement project of all time. My mom wanted her garage floor painted. The salt has eaten away the top layer of concrete exposing the aggregate. The floor was poured in 1971 and has also served as a storage depository for spilled and leaking oil. I am 5 days into the project with no end in sight Ive probably got 8 hours pressure washing another 4 hours scrubbing, 2 hours patching, 2 hours grinding off much of my shitty patch job, and now im trying to find a concrete finisher to cover up my fucked up patch job:shaking:
Did I mention the 2 days it took to completely empty the garage and the 2 huge thunderstorms on subsequent nights afterwards with all the stuff in the yard:mad3:
Once I get the floor smoothed out I have another 3 days of work before I will be ready to bring everything back inside:crybaby2:
BLK Scout 800 07-27-2009, 10:31 AM Tiling. :flipoff2: It actually reallly, really, sucked. :shaking: I will never do a tile shower again, until I can pay someone do it.
PM me if you need any pointers or help I do tile work for a living :)
Fri-Sun was my son's 8th birthday and all he wanted to to was camp and go wheelin so we did :p

For having to work Sat. I got a lot done. Dyna-matted the rear half Scion. ( poor mans version Peel&Seal from Lowe's) Then added some heavy weight foam padding over the rear area. I also dyna-matted the rear hatch and over the rear wheels and it made a big difference. Now I need to do the doors.
On the Scout I finished up the tranny cooler. I mounted it behind the passenger headlight. had to done some fab work as the inner fender was in the way. Dropped the temps like 30 degrees. I did a test drive and it never went over 180. and it was like 103° at 4 pm yesterday.
All most forgot. Got my sister inlaw's pool going too. So now we have a place to cool off Drain / power wash / acid wash / fill :dustin:
Glad Monday is here, I can rest
guidolyons 07-27-2009, 11:34 AM Dyna-matted the rear half Scion. ( poor mans version Peel&Seal from Lowe's)
Peel & Seal? Is it foamy tape like dyna mat? More info please.
Tahcustomscout 07-27-2009, 01:25 PM Picked up another transmission and transfer case to cannibalize for an upcomming project.

x2 as I need/want to do some of this in the tow rig...it is like a bigggg sheetmetal speaker box!
I went to Yakima to get my boys. We stayed at the HOLIDAAAYYY IIIIInnnn because the boys like the indoor pool.
Saturday I took them to a best friends pool party.
Sunday I cut out a half day early to head home and work around the house with the misses. We are having house guests this week and weekend...so the house needed a good deep cleaning.
Tonight we are entertaining her uncle from San Jose...
Tomorrow I am yard working and last cleaning...
Scout parts got ordered at least (new trans temp guage and sender).
I am looking at gears soon...
Binder 07-27-2009, 01:47 PM I wheeled yesterday......It was good.:smokin:

Everything? Antique auto too? That's a shitload of work for one guy.
This previous week I have been wiring the Scout. I'd say it's 90% done. All you have to do is turn the key and she fires up. Today a friend and I are going to drag it over to his garage so we can hang axles under it next week.
Go here for good info on sound proofing your junk.
http://www.sounddeadenershowdown.com/
He used to be a guy that compared all the different products out there from B-quiet, dyna mat, etc. Now he sells his own stuff which is a good way to go if you don't want to think about it and have the money.
Now on to the poor mans version of dyna mat. They sell it at the Lowes by my house, but I can't find it on there web page. I can look for the receipt and get the item number. Link to product here (http://www.cofair.com/peel_seal.aspx).
I did a flame test with this stuff. put on metal and heat back side with oxy/acetylene torch. passed my test. You don't need to cover everything, so leave drain holes and other spots uncovered as its a bitch to get back off.
heres a picture of it.

I covered most of the metal vs 25% as recommended by the sound guys. I used the tap and listen method:flipoff2:
Note: the Lowes by work did not have this stuff, but the one by my house does. ( don't ask for help they only work there ) you need to looks for yourself. I will get the item number as they all use the same number. It's just a hair thinner then dyna mat but is basically the same stuff without the high price. No smell, I just put 2 rolls in the car and you could not tell and it's 100+ outside. It's like butyl rubber, but suspect it's not 100% each roll is 6" x 25'
I did the hatch and the rear area and could tell the difference, now on to the doors. If I want the doors more quiet I will add some of this
http://www.lobucrod.com/images/album/thumbs/InsPic2.jpg
same stuff I used under the Scout with 3M spray glue. For the floors there is a local place that sells 4x5 foam pads and I picked up some HEAVY weight foam for the floors. 30 lbs of it:eek: Two 3/8" and two 5/8" pads figured what I don't use here goes into the Scout or use a camp pad.
link to one place that sell light weight foil faced insulation here (http://www.lobucrod.com/)
Edit: one more pic as the neighbor asked if I was getting ready for a NASCAR race.
uglyscout 07-27-2009, 05:30 PM http://images.lowes.com/product/converted/095959/095959062513md.jpg
They have it at my local Home Depot as well. I had read one of your previous posts on sound/heat proofing your Scout so I knew what I was looking for. But until today I had never actually seen it. It was in the ventilation area with the aluminum tape and register covers and stuff....
I will be buying a bunch of this stuff for my lil' brothers Scout project.
ChestonScout 07-27-2009, 06:37 PM whats the cost of a roll?
whats the cost of a roll?
About 15 with tax.

.
Very cool, thanks  I didn't see that when I searched the Lowes website, but I've seen that at the store (maybe HD) Know I know what to go look for.
I got raped on the $$$Hushmat$$$ I used in on the firewall, I'm going to use Lizard Skin and Herc on the tub, but that peel n seal will be good for the doors and other places that I can't spray.
I used poor mans Lizard skin too. I did 3 coats and used a brush and roller.

ChestonScout 07-27-2009, 11:20 PM So the peel & seal makes a good heat block? I need to do something. My floor gets hot enough to melt plastic.
To keep the thread on topic.....I didnt do much Scout related. I bought 4 heims and enough tubing to do the 4 link in the back. I need 1 more joint and a lot of ambition is all to get it done
guidolyons 07-28-2009, 11:09 AM Thanks for the link Craig, that's some good info

Mom sold it earlier this summer, lots of room in the garage now......NOT
290 thanks for that link, that paint additive looks very interesting
gage76 07-28-2009, 05:33 PM Pulled the non-functioning AC unit off, junked the emissions crap, replaced the alternator, and tuned the carb. Pulled the top off and took the kids out for some light wheeling.
theycallmefudd 07-29-2009, 07:15 AM No scout stuff again--- like 2.5 months in a row. Sold my j**p for a healthy profit, worked 77 hours last week and going out of town next week so the wife decided sunday and tuesday(days off) would be a good time to clean the house proper for Tiny who's dog watching/house sitting for us. Had a guy down on his luck want me to buy a nother j**p, 65- cj5 250.00 runs + drives so I may be busy not messing with the scout for another 2 months... I havn't decided:D

Hopefully I will be able to report in next weekends update :D
budget76 07-31-2009, 11:50 AM Guys, the peel and seal is good stuff for the floors on the cheap, but don't use it inside the doors/where it'll be upside down. I've read about it being used in the car audio world for sound deadening, and in the heat it'll melt and fall off. Could have been a different brand, but wanted to let you guys know what i've read

FWIW. I put it under my floors ( tranny tunnel area ) and it been there for for 2 years and holding up just fine. I did get the surface clean before atthaching and rubbed it on there good. I would take a small piece and test it so see how well it holds up for your application. I do know putting it on in the summer is way better. I've done some in the winter and used a heater to get the metal warm first.

Thanks for the info, I think I talked dad into doing it in the Yota we're building now. Good point on summer install, you want the metal warm and clean

I have been carting loads of crap from my garage to the storage locker, the only way to get more stuff in is to throw it in. Fuckin amazing how much stuff people collect.
