: Skeetshooters Guide to Machining

Well, my buddy skeetshooter conned some poor sucker into giving him a lather for about 25% of the value of the machine and financed it on the little to none payment plan.

You might think I would be jealous of his good fortune, seeing how he drug my trailer to retrieve this latest acquisition, destroying a tire and fender in the process; not at all

Oh 'contrare mon frere', not jealous at all, because all he got was a cheap lathe, while I on the other hand got a FREE lathe complete with him as operator to make me neat shit.

It seems that I had this old Dana 60 front lying out in the pasture that had some damned old dually hubs stuck to the ends. Well, with my superior intellect and leadership skills, skeetshooters never say die attitude, two 30 packs of Bud Light, several bottles of Crisco vegetable oil, 4 packs of salem lights, and many visits by our good friends Trial and Error, we came up with this.

Jesse (skeet) did a hell of a job, and saved me major bucks, I appreciate it,..........................................fucke r

Jesse is the MAN!

He, like Gunracer, can make chicken salad out of chicken shit!

I saw him drop a transfer case on a rock in Clayton and tie it up in his Zuk with ZIP TIES!

Damn....now he has a lathe...I thought a pocket knife would work fine for you guys...:flipoff2:

:p

Just kidding!. Cool man! Too bad I dont have any fawking cool people to front me time on a lathe, Id find shit to make. All I want to do now is to fab up some caliper brackets like the ones WAGONER MACHINE SHOP has to run 15in wheels without grinding or even using D60 calipers. I really want 15x12 rims but that' entail grinig thru the caliper. :(

that ring that you see in the second pic is the outer flange that used to hold the wheel studs. (should have took some before pics fucker!!) anyhoo that was a learning expirence, the next set I do I will gouge off the outer ring with an Arcair. that way I dont have to spend so much time cutting with a parting tool. Hayraker took the second one to the penal institution that he works at and had them attempt to cut it off with the plasma cutter which did save alot of time but it came back looking like it had been chewed off by a pit bull wearing dentures.

and in response to your great show of appreciation, You're welcome FUCKER :flipoff2:

They have a big hat on the end for the lugs in order to mount budd wheels.

To run regular wheels and not have them sticking out another 4 1/2 inches you must remove the hat, and turn down the hub so a wheel center can slide over it.

Jesse cut one off with the lathe making and end or plunge cut, but this was way slow and hard on equipment, but made a nice clean cut.

I took the other to work and used a plasma cutter to remove its ring, but it maxed out my torch and didn't do a very good job, the grinder attachment had to clean it up a little before we could turn it down.

ah ok then you just put studs in the part that is holding the rotor on. looks simple enough but why do people bitch all the time about it?

You got it dude. The reason people bitch about it is the fact that not everyone can turn their own, and machine shops are $$$.

after you turn down the outer flange, and put the longer studs in, is the width the same as a single rear wheel dana 60 front?

REDDMANIAC

I believe the WMS may be set further inside making it perfect for the 2.5in backspacing for 15x10 wheels with VERY small amount of grinding. Thats me theoryas I dont know exactly if dimensions the same on single wheel hubs & I also dont have the wheels yet.
HAYRAKER, what rear axle you gonna go with? My D60 rear has the smaller "1/2" inch studs, I wanted to use them for the front too so I got 77 F150 4x4 front hub studs of the same, which have a smaller "taper" than on the rear. I didnt want to drill out too much meat from those ears, so hope thats helps ya in case you havent thougt bout it. ;)

good idea about the studs. I have a 60 rear, but it has the larger lugs.
