: Wheel spacers - ball joint leverage

Totally non-hardcore.
So maybe it has been too long since my last physics class…
Is the force on the ball joints the same or different between wheels with 3.75” backspace and wheels with 5” backspace and a 1.25” spacer. These put the tire in the exact same spot, but is that giving leverage to the tire on the ball joints that it didn’t have already?
I want to move to 17” wheels, but very few come in backspacings less than 4.5” and I am needing to do this on the cheap, and get around 3.75" backspace. While I am on a D44 in the front, and am not super hard on my rig, I don’t want to encourage a ball joint failure with extra leverage. I have popped one out before on 3.75 backspace.

I can’t seem to agree with myself whether the spacer would have an effect or not…
Thanks

Adding a spacer will increase the leverage, but no more than running an equal combo of rim and tire with the backspace achieved by the spacer.

^ what did Travis just say:confused:

i think he said you will have NO additional leverage on the balljoints with the setup you are proposing.
