Hayraker 09-13-2002, 06:33 PM My piece of shit has been sitting in the shop for many moons due to me being a lazy ass and not having enough *inspiration* to get the axles swapped in, a serious slow down in cash flow, and going back to grad school.
Well skeetshooter got a lathe and we turned down my dually hubs ( see thread in general 4x), and today I got these.
Hayraker 09-13-2002, 06:35 PM need to lose some more sheet metal,
Hayraker 09-13-2002, 06:41 PM My pimp mobile, (that's my brother in the pic)
Hayraker 09-14-2002, 05:21 PM I think they might fit now.
Hayraker 09-14-2002, 05:23 PM Almost time for this.
SSGTWC 09-16-2002, 04:50 AM Hayraker,
That would be a D-60F, would it not? What's the goin prices on those little gems down there in your neck of the woods? TIA :flipoff2:
Hayraker 09-16-2002, 06:43 AM Tim, the price varies alot down here, I personally gave $200 for the one pictured about this time last year, a buddy bought one for $150 at about the same time, they were both purchased from small privately owned wrecking yards. Most of the time they are $500-$800 and getting hard to find.

Tell me about it
I'm trying to find a replacement for my T-all's D-44F, and the only thing I can find in the one ton variety is out of a Ford one ton. Not sure if it is indeed a D-60. I've called just about every junk yard there is with in a 100 miles from me and no one seems to have a D60F from a chevy or dodge. Plenty of 3/4 ton crap, D-44's and such. But that one Ford axle, I can get for $40. But that starts a whole new issue (transfer cases).
BTW, nice score on that rubber. :flipoff2:
TERRA-IZER 09-16-2002, 09:28 PM Tim, just find a devorced NP205 out of a ford and get that front end, Heck if you don't want it let me know where it is and i come get it for $40.00.

Yeah right :flipoff2:
But seriously, if I do find a 205, I'm thinking (hamster working overtime) that maybe all I have to do is turn the crossmember around 180*. But that is probably just wishful thinking. There is probably a 205 in that yard somewhere. And another possibility, is having to relocate the oil filter. Ok enough with my delimmas, back to the orignal topic of this thread. Thanks gor the input Terra :D
gunracer1 09-21-2002, 04:27 PM ronnie i am getting the hummer rims on teusday, they are closed on fridays. didn't learn that till thursday. mike
Hayraker 09-21-2002, 11:34 PM That's cool Mike, just got the axle bolted up today, quit about 1:00 am, got some roll around tires bolted up right now, gonna haul it over to Jesse's tomorrow so we can finish both rigs over there. Gonna go wheelin again someday I hope.

There coming along, this winter I'm going to clean up a few things including 4.56's. I don't know what I'm going to do with the body, your's has fewer dents in it then mine. :p

That's just because I cut *most* of my dents off:D , it is a major pain bracing this cancerous bitch back up so it doesn't fall completely apart.
I actually drove it around a little today, still need to install the new forward front spring mounts for the 2 1/2" springs, install detroit in front 60 and the 6.17's front and rear, weld rear carrier, get new u-bolt style pinion yoke for the rear 60, build my steering components(got a temporary hack job right now), do some more major reconstructive surgery on the rear fender wells, traction bars, mount tires on hummer wheels, fix major tranny leak, and several other things to numerous to mention, and I'll be done:D

High5 10-08-2002, 05:16 PM wow that is looking sweet ronny! when are we going to go play in clayton again? i want to take the jeep on it's retirement run before i tear it apart to build the fj40/buggy. i too dig the od green and black flames. that sure is a different beast than what i saw when we were in clayton last feb.!!
Hayraker 10-09-2002, 06:15 AM Thanks everybody,
Brian, hope to have this thing ready for Barnwell on the 19th, don't know if I will get it tho, my partner in crime had to go out of state for family reasons. We still have to finish the scout and then we have to put the full width axles under his lunar module (zuk).
gunracer1 10-09-2002, 08:02 AM i was wondering why i could not get a hold of him. but the scout is looking kick ass. mike
Hayraker 10-10-2002, 09:42 AM Yeah Mike, he should be back on Sunday or Monday. We'll get em finished in time to at least play one day at Gilmer.
High5 10-10-2002, 06:56 PM hey ronny how about some day light photos!
Hayraker 10-10-2002, 08:45 PM LOL, I never see it in the daylight, closest I've come is when we worked until 5:30am last saturday morning.
I'll get some this weekend:)
gunracer1 10-14-2002, 09:36 AM well after talking to jesse last night, it only sounds like you just like finishing up. get it, i will have my junk rollin by friday. might not be able to stop, but i built it to go not stop.
Hayraker 10-16-2002, 07:45 AM Yep, run into a few snags setting up the front gears with the detroit, but I finally got em set up about midnight last night. I'm runnin short on time but I think I will get done and be able to at least wheel until whatever I forgot to tighten up lets go and tears a bunch of shit. So I'll probably get a good 30 minutes or so on the trail..........that is if it doesn't break backing it off the trailer:D
BTW, I have some new pictures but haven't been home enough to load them.
gunracer1 10-16-2002, 07:57 AM just do it, i will be putting shockmounts on the front, front drive shaft, traction bars, lower the rear bump stops. and a shit load of other stuff i am forgeting about. mike

Yeah, I'm leaving early from work, headed out the door now. Out of your list, I guess I will put on a front driveshaft, but not going to have time for traction bars or bumpstops, unless I just hack something together temporary. See ya this weekend.
We may get Jesses rig just far enough along to winch on the trailer and finish it at camp. hmmm, that sounds familiar:D
gunracer1 10-17-2002, 10:01 AM hey it's not like we haven't done that before. i am putting on my traction bar tonight and i am ready. i got every thing else done. mike

hmm, as beat and as bashed as it is..... I like the front-end treatment.
Still looks Scout, but much more open. I like that you took the stock turn signals andf moved them in, keeping the lower grill as well, reatains much of the stock look, but TONS more functional...
I have to say, I like it. With that front treatment, I could see very eaisily cutting the fenders and tilting the front down... encreasing trail visability, will out killing the look....
!!
hey ronny,
whats your ground clearance from the bottom of the frame?
thanks,

You rig is way pimp, can't wait to see it on the trail. Great to see a Texas Scout "full size".
BTW, what grad school are you headed to?
Hayraker 11-03-2002, 08:43 AM Rustoleum, Thanks, I really liked how the front turned out, Next step is to build a bumper that follows the same lines.
Pat, I will have to measure the frame clearance, the front will have more lift after I finish my spring mounts. The rear is just SOA with stock springs and the front is SOA with stock Wagoneer springs.
Joe, the pig is still my best mod.:flipoff2:
jackasic, looking forward to wheelin with you sometime, as for grad school, I am attending A&M-Commerce.
Wheelin pics will have to wait cuz its almost duck season, and matters of state must take precedent over matters of state, etc. etc. :D

By the way whats the best estimate of total hours that you put into this "project"??

gunracer1 11-04-2002, 11:13 AM well quit being a puss and take that thing out and flog it. but make sure you put traction bars on it front and rear. i bent my front springs so bad that it looks like a road grader with the tires turned. i have made a deal for a set of 44s, so i am still a bit ahead of you on the penis extension department.
Hayraker 11-04-2002, 11:52 AM I require no penis extension, unlike you I am still a virile young man:flipoff2:

REDDMANIAC 11-07-2002, 12:05 PM Did ya actually use the dually hubs that ya machined down to SRW?? Doesnt appear to be the same.
Hayraker 11-07-2002, 12:14 PM Red, I decided not to use the hubs that skeet turned down. At the time that we turned them down, I was anticipating using camper special wheels with 4 and 3/4 inch backspacing. After gunracer came up with the hummer wheels (that I still need to pay for) I decided to stick with the stock dually hubs to protect the lockouts and gain some width(skeetshooter and I both had a set, so he is keeping the converted ones) . My rear is too narrow and I will use some type of spacer eventually to widen its track.
gunracer1 11-07-2002, 12:31 PM ronnie check out a set of spacers from a 94 up dodge 4x4 dually front axle. the 3/4 ton and duallys use the same axle, just that the duallys get a spacer. i dont know how much they would run at the chrysler house but i think if you hit some yards you could come up with some. mike

yes,................... theoretically:flipoff2:
I took it out behind the house yesterday to test it out a little and oddly enough nothing broke. I was worried whether or not I had enough gears, but the 6.17's with 42's feel much better than the 3.54's and 33's.
all I need now is front and rear traction bars and put a floor in the bed. Gotta gather funds for material first:(
gunracer1 11-19-2002, 06:35 AM bring it down one saturday night, we will drink beer all night and tear the shit out of it on alans ranch sunday. they have found a ridge line there that are pretty tough, and i cant get kicked out for drinking beer. so i like the hell out of that place
