: Super Duty axels in my '97

Still on a relentless axel hunt for my '97 4x4 F-250 PSD and came across a very cheap set (F&R) of axels from a 4x4 2000 F250. Will these go under my truck fairly easy? The two things on my mind (other than spring perches) are the speed sensor in the rear end and the trac-bar up front. This is my DD that I use to pull large loads on & off road with, so every thing must work properly.
Thanks!

with all the reading I have done on this subject, I think it would, but isn't the front a dana 50? I bought a set of 2002 f350 dually axles that I was going to put under my 1996 f250 4x4, but I sold the truck before I could do it. If I were going to change axles, I would at least find a d60 for the front. good luck, post up your build thread when you get a chance.

Yes it is a D50, this truck is my DD/tow vehicle though so I think that it won't matter too much... all though I would rather have a 60. the price I can get these axles for way off set that fact.

So... any confirmation on a "drop in" for those axels.

the speed sensor in the rear end is the same. its not too bad of a job i cant remember all the exact items that need to be adressed.

obswiz at powerstrokenation.com i know has done it and there is someone else that has done it that i cant remember at the moment

there are some sd dana 60's 99-02 all has 50's there are some 60's trickling in 03 and 05 they are all 60's be nice to get a 05+ ready to 3 or 4 link front end

i think the perches are the same distance apart, if i get a chance i got a obs and a SD in the driveway ill measure

That'd be great! I might just go ahead and pick these up, price is too good not to.

front end is completely worn out and I don't want to polish a turd. rear end needs a lot of work done to keep things going. I can get the SD set for less than I can fix the TTB

spring perch widths are different between the 2 models. The SDuty pass side perch will line up, the housing side will need about 1/2 inch ground out of the housing to let the spring fit. Saw this swap done on a 97 F350 that wasted a front 60. the 50 was put in to get the truck back on the road. You'll need to redrill a spring pin hole about 1/2 in also.

X's 2, but those dana 50's dont like a lot of weight... Specially off road. You might want to keep looking. Ball joint 60's are almost a dime a dozen right now.

The spring perches are wider. Obswiz did swap the running gear from 08 I think it was but they run coil springs not leafs so it was not exactly bolt in. They are also a different bolt pattern so figure new wheels in the cost figures.

I don't think I'd bother with that swap, I couldn't imagine volunteering to run unitbearings on a HD truck like that. Do a little research on what they cost, and how long they last. The TTB D50 was good enough for the truck for 12yrs, maybe they don't like lift kits and are a bitch to align, but the super duty D50/D60 was never a good front end. Super duty owners spend thousands swapping in older front ends and rebuildable hub kits:laughing: A rear sterling for the 97 should be a dime a dozen, and a BJ 60 should be like $700. I'll have a KP 60 for sale in a couple of weeks for $1000, and thats a bolt in swap. You could probably find them cheaper back east even.

Superduty axles are pretty cheap. You can probably get a superduty D60/sterling set for a few hundred. It'd be worth it to hold out for the right one. Also, pre-'98 D60s are definitely not a dime a dozen....

Why is it that so many people can't spell Axle correctly? :flipoff2:
