is it nessesary for the use of a balace pipe or h-pipe on a dual exhuast system. all my buddys say that my truck needs one. i am in the process of fabing my own exhuast. from the looks of it i dont think i can get a h-pipe on there. its an 81 chevy with 350/465/205

On a stock or mild carbed 350, useless.
On a built race motor sure why not, and x pipes are better then h pipes.

x pipe is best if you want it

i ran straight duals, alot.

there is no need for a cross pipe at all, all it does is smooth the exhaust tone out.

Will get rid of a lot of the raspy popping you'll have in your exhaust - especially when engine braking.

just got done doing a 3" Y pipe to 3.5" pipe and edelbrock SDT muffler all mandrel bends. VERY surprised as to how the sound turned out. No rasp at all and no poping on decel, just plain roar. Seems to make more power than my 2.25" duals also.

once you reach a certain flow point, the crossover pipe helps balance
the exhaust pulses, increasing the scavenging effect.

blah blah blah, i have heard that foever, mine shit ran great with 2.5 true duals, 3" true duals and 3"y with a 4" dump.

i would love to see some actual dynos, data or something to prove it helps anything.

cross over or x, all its going to do is smooth it out.

There may be some benefit in it for a minimal amount of torque, somewhere ~ 5 ftlbs.

i wouldnt worry about it.

i had a 79 camaro with stock manifolds with 2.25 true duals to flowmaster 40s', no balance pipe or h pipe. sounded fucking amazing. the motor was only bout 320 hp and 375 torque though. it didnt get raspy at all, but i never took it about 5500 much, and if its an automatic, i wouldnt think youd have to worry about engine braking if its an auto
