My brother and I are at the ground floor in "your" zuk sport.

I'm a toyota guy myself but he picked up the zuk for a payoff. So, we'll use it.

Anyway, he doesn't want to stay "typical" with the setup and figures he can gather ideas about what would be cool do do to the zuk.

We stripped EVERYTHING off of the zuk. Right now the frame sits with stands under it and that's it.

Idea:

Complete Cherokee switch over but on Leafs.
4.0 - 5spd - xfer - d44 front and rear.

Shot your ideas at us.

if you need parts, they are posted in the for sale section or just email me. kamannsj@email.com

 I know everyone has ideas or opinions for what they would do.

Have at it :flipoff2:

Ya know, every day we get that same exact question here.
"New sammi owner, what do I do now?"
My suggestion on what to do is read the threads from the past month before you ask this question again. I'm writing this as a favor to you. Most guys will just give you a few of these. :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

Not that you don't deserve them!! :flipoff2: :flipoff2:

EDIT}: Go here and you'll find more info than you can use.

Why in the world would you put (gasp) Jeep parts on a Samurai? Simple deal, keep the Samurai a Suzuki, you cant go wrong.

Cherokee drivetrain will be way long, IMHO. That said, anything IS possible with the right combonation of tools. This job will take a minimum of a torch or other MAJOR cutting tool, a welder and a LOT of engineering to even do anything better than a hack job.

It's possible, as we've seen on this board, to have the following setups:

- SB Chevy, TH350 tranny, Rockwell axles and 44's
- Nissan Patrol Diesel motor and tranny, Sammi t-case, LandCruiser axles
-Toyota 22re and stoch tranny, dual Toy t-cases, Dual Dana44's
-VW Turbo Diesel, stock 5 speed and t-case, etc...

Anything is possible with Zuk's... I've even seen a exo-skeleton'd Zuk body mated up to a 1 ton Chevy 4x4 chassis with a propane injected 383 hooked to a Turbo 400 tranny, NP205 t-case, Dana60 front and Corporate 14 bolt rear with tractor tires on the rear and seriously cut SX's that were cut down to bogger-style tread. This thing would do balls-out full throttle attacks up Helicoptor Pad in Tellico basically riding a wheelie the whole way up.

Matt (keeping my Zuk a LOT simpler.....)

Nc Zuk,

Actually dude, "that" is not my question.
I offered up our suggestions to you..... You are the Sami experts here not me.

I'm not asking for you to build my rig.
Heck...I'm not even asking for what you've done to yours.

i'm asking... what is so far to the extreme that would still work.

it's a project and I'll fabricate what it takes to fabricate.

I'm not afraid of the thing and i'm not a newbie to wheeling or building rigs.

I do appreciate your post........ Although... being a toyota guy...I'm used to "the love" :D :flipoff2: :D

Later man

Matt,

A voice of reason!:D

THAT is what I'm talking about. Is it possible w/out being too crazy and without taking 2 years to freaking build.
I may be crazy but I've got enough reason in me to be sane.

My take:

The Jeep 4.0 is quite possibly the most durable 6cyl stock.
I could certainly use either a Toy 5spd or automagic (PUKE) mated with dual T-cases. (I know these!!).
Dana 44's front and rear from either a Cherokee or Waggy.
This combo (in my opinion) should work nicely for pretty much anything on the east cast. EVEN on a SWB Zuk. Can't be any worse then a Cheby 4.3 or 350 swap.

I can get most of the parts combined above for under a grand total.... that is, - the dual t-case adapter. Since the Zuk was a payoff...I'd say it's a worth while investment. I was just looking for a "Broker" w/sound advice. :D

I have a millermatic 251, torches and pretty much everything but the plasma cutter () I should be able to do better then a Hack Job.... :D

thanks man... i'll be back often

Well you stated lots of things...some with attitude, obviously you haven't been hanging here long or you wouldn't be all worked up about things. And had I posted before NC zuk guy i'd hit ya with the search option first.... this IS the 3rd or 4th time this week for the "what should i do" post...... This stuff make me just want to NOT post my crap....

but anyway my reply........
so far it was a "pay off" not sure for how much, might put things in perspective......

you've said you want to do something wild and silly with it...

how much $ you wanna dump? how about mog axles !!!
how much time you wanna spend?
what parts you have avaliable (im guessing jeep stuff)

my question is why are you doing this?
-because you have it?
-because you like the "looks" of a zuke. ?
-you like the light weight idea of a zuke. ?

with all the drive line youve listed id find a beat up jeep YJ and flop your zuke tub on it. you'll be ahead time and money...

Zukipuke,

Ok... I see your point. Nope..haven't been on "this" board much.

Why? simply because I can? Honestly, it's my brother in laws zuk and he's seen my toy. We both know that zuk axles arent' going to last all that long. so...why not upgrade. zuk motor is good for up to 32's...I'm not a fan after that. Same may and that's cool. Tranny and t-case... well... I guess I don't have to but heck... why not.

Money.. it's ALWAYS something that hangs over you. That's why I figured lets use what I have on hand. Being some toy and some Jeep. That keeps the count down.

As far as what's into the zuk. Well... if we put it into perspective the whole thing ran about 300 bones.

I personally like the SWB excitement aspect since I own a LWB x-cab toyota.

Didn't mean the attitude... I just know the newbie questions and it's not what I'm asking :D

I like opinions..... I guess I'll just run the ideas and wait for people to say WTF "that was tried and doesn't work, why didn't you ask" to come up :D :D

Thanks for the post man

Yehaw! Looks like your not a thinskinned leftest! It's all in good fun. I guess you could go as extreme as you want, just depends on your engineering know how. I wish ya the best of luck and welcome to the Samurai crowd.!!

I'm actually a transplant to NC due that stupid thing called a job. I'm from Uniontown PA.

It definatly sounds like its going to be an interesting project
anything can be done the only thing I would point out is the weight factor of a 4.0 thats why we like are zuks so much as far as 1.3 only good to 32 your IMHO dead to rights wrong Ive seen the 1.3 with gearing turn 38's with no problem and make jeeps with 360's
look like shit but then its not hard. Good luck

I am surprised nobody has commented on this but the 4.0l is an inline six. So that means it is friggin long! I think it is way too long for the samurai engine bay! (they are onger then the sbc and are way longer then the 4.3l v6) I am sorry to interupt your dreams but are you planning to length your front end by substantial amount?

DogDenII
09-16-2002, 09:04 AM
Longer then a 350?
The frame has to be extended for the longer leaves anyhow.

We are not talking a FULL FOOT in length. Or are we

I don't mind extending the Zuk a little, but not THAT much.

littlejackass

I don't know how much longer it is but it is longer just think if you add 2 more ccylinders length wise on a sbc you would probably get the size of a 4.0l
