I am in the process of replacing the rear axle shaft bearings on my Scout dana 44 rear axle shafts, I went to napa got new seals, and bearings, Now With the bearings and reatainer ring pressed on the shaft, When I try to reinstall the shafts back in to the housing, the seal sticks out about 1/8 inch to far, So i am unable to tightin down the retainer plate with out warping it, I looked and accordung to the napa website i have the right axle bearings and seals, but.... the bearing i pulled out originally were tarpered bearings with races, my new ones arent like that! Any ideas or anybody know if theres a diff bearing or seal to be used, the axles are 1978 with Stock shafts.

Did you get Timken Set 10 bearings? If you didn't then you got the wrong bearing.

Not exactly 100% true. Yes, he needs Set 10 bearings... but they don't HAVE to be Timken.

The new Set 10 area unitize bearing where the race is "stuck" onto the tapered bearing cone. Over time, the race will seperate from the cone and look just like a normal cup/cone tapered roller bearing.

...and let the axle coming singing out of the housing at highway speeds causing a great deal of monetary damage to a tailgating car.
