: Givin' up on L&L headers!

I used L&L parts to install a 460 in my '79 F-150 about three years ago.

The truck got parked and has only about 2500 miles on it since then. Most of that in the last couple of months since my son turned 16 and is driving it.

The passenger side header, I had to grind the frame a bit to get it to fit. On the drivers side it hits the driveshaft, even after I went to a smaller diameter shaft.

Various calls and emails to L&L left me with "Get a return number and send them back." With their agreement, I sent them digital pics via email showing the less than 1/2" clearance. In a couple of calls they admitted to some problems during the time frame I bought my headers with some jigs in the shop. (My word against theirs.)

Since then, no replies to my emails and voicemails. I posted the same pics here a few months back.

I know I have been slow in this process, but lifetime is lifetime and I have all my original receipts and invoices etc.....

Not pleased at all.

My son and I went to the Pick and Pull this morning. Found the exhaust manifolds I needed and the headers are coming out. Hopefully I can get my money back from L&L. Not holding my breath.

Done venting, have a good weekend.

Mike I think this may be the problem! Lifetime warranty on materials and workmanship. Fitment problem should have been brought to their attention immediately, NOT 3 years later!

I had nothing but a good experience when dealing with L&L when I put a 495 in my '69 F-250. They sent me the wrong clutch disc (wrong diameter splines) and I called them as soon as I noticed the error and it was taken care of very promptly (within the week). :D All other parts including headers, mounts, oilpan, etc. fit without problem.

Sorry you didn't have the same experience.

Steve,

My first instinct is to agree with you, but I specifically bought the L&L parts for their warranty. I could have saved money and bought elsewhere. I ran a temporary exhaust and no front driveshaft for the better part of a year, even though it wasn't driven much. I knew that it would be a long term project, though not as long as it has turned out.

Another point would be a warranty that said something like. "Guaranteed not to break, or wear out, but we don't guarantee they will fit." Not a very usefull warranty.

I am going to play the game, and put manifolds back on, contact L&L and send the headers back. If they won't return my money and prefer to send another pair of headers, I will sell them on a site like this. (Assuming they find a problem.) If they say there is not a problem and return this pair, I will sell them also, with a VERY GOOD description of the problems I had with the headers.

Well back to work on my bathroom tiling project.

Ey dood,

I feel your pain. I have a 79 with a 460 that i've swapped in. Used the same headers with their motormounts too. After I waited over 2 months after I ordered them I got my headers. The nickle platting vat was broken or somethin. The passenger side has like 3/16" of clearance (they actually told me it wouldn't be a problem..yeah right) and my driver side header sat right on top of my pinion for my 44r. They got me to pack that driver side up and send it back to em. They bent it a little and shipped it back. It STILL hits the yolk just barely while just sitting in the driveway. I've been workin on this project for a year and still haven't driven it. I'm obviously gonna have to lift it several inches to drive it over a speed bump much less on the. They gave me the run around too so I gave up on it and moved to a different part of the project. Good luck
