Can anyone point me in the direction of an good artical showing the improvements to the turbo 400 case for 4x4s?

not a lot of things can be done to improve the case for a 4x4 application.

be sure to put the snap ring back in the case before you put in the first set of clutches. that will keep the case from getting ruined...
install a 34 element sprag on a 6 clutch drum too.
other than that, its just parts.

Ok I have did a lot of reading on this and the only thing I can see might be a issue will be not haveing the tool to hold the centersuport in alinement, any Ideas were to find this tool?

One of my ancient ATRA manuals shows the tool, Kent-Moore J-23093-basically a drift punch with a say 20 degree bend towards the end of the shaft, placed in one of the feed holes and tension put upon the center support to pre-load it in a clockwise fashion (viewed from the front of the transmission) whilst torquing the center support bolt to 23 Ft. Lbs.

That is about what I figured it could be used for so I did just what you said, 1st time lets hope for the best.
The reason for changing the cast is the origanal one was cracked just ahead of the weabing at the rear of the case, I suspect it is do to the motor being mounted solid and the origanal transfercase mount was still used.

that generally means youre hanging too much weight off the back of it and jumping it... bandon isnt far from the dunes... I just burned up drive in my th400 at boxcar.

It has a 241 on the rear and I just reasently bought it. The rig is set up for mud drags bogger and bigger digers. L98 350 cid.I would post a pic but it has been a while sence I did that.

Took rig for maiden run thursday works excilent now on to some fuel system updates " 12 gal cell, filter, pump, lines and should be in good shape I hope. We all know what happen when you rund the dog shit out of things.
