I'm just wondering whats involved with removing ABS from a TJ? I'm looking at picking up another TJ for cheap as a project (axle swap) but it comes with ABS. Is it worth the hassle?

1. remove transmission and engine for access to ABS

2. cut all wire going to abs box........its right above the bellhousing

3. reinstall engine and trans

4. enjoy :confused:


or just swap axles and dont worry about it

do you want to remove it completely, or just disable it. you can always just pull the fuse for the motor/pump

Nothing is ever as easy as it first seems... :(
I would like to completely remove the system since I don't see a point in having it.
What benefit would there be in just removing the fuse? Would everything work normally minus ABS kicking in?
Ok so just to confirm, on a std vehicle with no ABS it goes pedal, MC, brakes. On an ABS system it goes pedal, MC, ABS distribution system then brakes?

pretty much. your dash light would come on too, so you would probably want to pull that. i don't think DOT would like having a system like the brakes that doesn't work when there is an electrical failure...

i pull my fuse off road all the time. doesn't even set a CEL

Would it be ok to bypass the ABS system and just run new brake lines from the MC straight to each wheel as on a NON ABS vehicle?
Is the ABS MC satisfactory to do this with????
