: Rockwell split rim on the trails

I see where beadlocks are available for these 20" split rims. These beadlocks state they are not air tight and that innertubes will still have to be used. Well-why can't you just drill thru the fixed rim side with 8 good side bolts that go all the way thru the rim and cord since you have to use the innertube anyway? We are just trying to keep the tire from spinning on the wheel at low psi-correct? Other comments? ideas? Steve

You're talking bead screws, right? (Bolting tire bead to wheel)? Then...

1. How do you keep the screw from tearing the innertube where it pokes through the inside of the tire?
2. What do you do when the rocks tear a bolt-head off?

not those little bead screws-those don't even go all the way thru the beads at least on some 44's I used to run. I'm talking about bolts say 3/8" or 7/16" bolts, perhaps use grade 8 round head with allen head that you would insert from inside and have the nut on the outside of wheel. Innertube would lay over round head on the inside? The beads on some of these 20" army tires are 1.5" thick

From what I remember of the pictures of it that were on here, I think the name fits. Man that thing is fugly, but that doesn't mean that it doesn't get it.

Back to the main question, I have been thinking about this for a while as well. I believe you are talking about taking a split rim and getting rid of the outer ring and putting a beadlock three ring kit on correct? if so I know what your talking about and I didn't see why it wouldn't be air tight with the exception of the slot that the valve stem goes through. A quick fix for that woud be to weld a plate in the hole and put a screw in valve stem used in tubeless rims (one that pokes through from the inside and has a jamb nut to secure it) there might be a slight leak between the first and second rings, so if you want to be crafty just make a gasket or just be very gererous with the silicone.

Thanks for the info Daniel! I don't know this guy from Mississippi and I'm not sure what a half moon hex 1.25" screws look like or where to get them. I guess the bolt idea all the way thru the cord is not a good one on that non ring side. Steve
