how long have you guys had your 1/4 elliptic springs last?? do you ever experience failures on the trail?

What springs? The spidertrax kit, or what? seems to me that this would make as big a diff. in 1/4 elip springs as it would in std. 1/2 elliptic.

Along the same lines as the original question...

Does anyone know anything about the Spidertrax kit? ie how hard is the install, how well does the kit work compared to coils, what is the max size tire you can run without fender trimming...

I tried a couple searches and didn't find anything, so any info would be appreciated.

well, lets bring it out to longevity of different types of springs.

what coils leafs or 1/4 stuff are you running and have you had failures.

I just snapped a Rear-springs-up-front rear spring main. it was a crawler on the rear for about 1 year before i went up to the front. on the front the stock rear lasted about 4 or 5 months of light crawling with intermitteng spanking. it was on the left front so obviously it probably died of poser shots!! anyway....

what are the best springs to start off with to make 1/4 elliptic homemade style??

I am scheduled to get a 1/4 ellip very soon, rig is waiting at Spidertrax. I have the same question, not sure I ever got it answered. I was convinced that the 1/4 ellip is more stable than coils... due to the outside placement of springs vs. coils. My new concern will be "too much" articulation.... yes, I said it... too much. I want to maintain a Zuk look and not the buggy style. I not sure that I can cut my fender wells high enough to prevent rubbing. Longevity, I was told that the 1/4 ellip will last long enough not to worry about it.... hmmm, what the hell kind of answer is that.

WFO4ME,

What size tires do you plan on running? I was told that the QERS kit is adjustable for different ride heights (I assume they meant during the install you could pick your height, not that you can adjust the ride height on a whim) and could handle 33" tires. I wanna run 35's, so I'm a little concerned with having to trim the body too much.

I'm on the other end of the spectrum, I WANT as much travel as I can get :D

My current sami has Mike Schaffer's coil kit and I really like it alot. Once the coils are broken in, it has very good onroad characteristics and is quite stable off-road.

That is spring rate related. The more inboard the spring is, the longer the lever arm of the axle trying to compress it, so the softer the spring acts (easier to flex, more body roll). You can cure this by running a stiffer spring. But the stiffer spring will hurt ride quality, if you care. :D The axle lever arm is negated when both sides are compressed at the same time.

Easy cure for "too much" articulation - BUMP STOPS! :D Longer bump stops can keep your tires from contacting the body if you don't want to trim. And limit straps can fix things if you have too much droop...
