from wheelin in VT for the weekend. fun stuff, a lot has been logged recently so there are some neat little side-trails to nowhere off of the main trail. unfortunately i was only able to snag two pics before my camera started acting up, later i figured out it was a low battery
anyways, heres the pics. the swampers worked AWESOME, even with no lockers i was running the same or more agressive lines than a locked f/r range rover on 33" SSRs was doing. got about 5ft of air under the LF tire at one point going up a neat little climb, that was pretty neat :D
they work great at 9psi. no broken halfshafts either! (stock 10 splines, one with twisted splines before the trip)

10 Spline Lives!!!
Who else is running 10 spline with big tires, even if only upfront please let me know...Post here so I can get an idea. I know Drew ran 10 spline with those 38's, was that front and rear 10 spline Drew ?? What about LWG ?
10 spline always gets a bad wrap ( no not a pun but maybe sometimes true!!) I love it as it parts are cheap and plentiful. Now if you get a locker you might as well overkill and upgrade to 24 or 30 spline, atleast for the rear...
Check how much abuse did your truck see out there ? Any rocks, those are pretty tame photos for such evil looking tires... (considering what Serious was doing at about the same time :flipoff2: )

yeah that was a tame spot when i stopped to let the rest of the group catch up. i did this cool obstacle called "ball buster" which was pretty stressful on the axleshafts. i was the only one to make it up aside from a locked f/r defender 90 on 36x12.5 radial TSLs. and i am open front and rear so that is a testament to the tires as well as the obstacle.
over all i didnt stress them too hard, but no less than what i would have with the 31s and a rear detroit. i will probably run them once more before going locked in the rear on alloy 30 splines with a toy Elocker diff. when it comes time to lock the front it will be a reverse cut toy third with an E locker and warn full 30 spline throughout running CTM u joints. i want to be able to hammer on those axles and not worry about the axle shafts.
i am also running the 3.54s still, which allowed less torque to be transmitted to the axleshafts.
i was running the tires at 9psi but will probably go to 8 next time since the tires didnt bulge as much as i would have liked them to.
best guess is the truck weighs in at about 5500 lbs with a half tank and no driver. tired 3.5 V8 motor.

Where in VT did you run??
The trail almost looks familiar, but I can't place it.

I was running 10-spline up front until about a week and a half ago. I pulled my 10-spline axles out to inspect them and found they had started rolling already. I never even used the front locker! So I sourced some 1-ton CV's and installed them with the Maxi-drive "Extreme Duty" front axles and beat the hell out of them at the rally. Everything seems great now.

Larry -
Are you still 10 spline up-front but now with HD shafts and an ARB locker and 1 ton cvs ??? Those cv's come with tough outer shafts as well ?
What year is your rover Larry, with ABS or no ? Do you have the part # for your 1 tons cvs handy...if not I can search the archives I remember you debating it with Bill I think...
I gave up on e-lockers,,, couldn't find them locally for cheap as I thought as they are a favorite with the good old boys down here..
I feel like I just dumped my old lego bin on the floor and am piecing together a super starship with all the bits and pieces of the varying sets.. I was never one to bag and label them individually..

this was a whole network of trails around the plymouth/bridgewater area of VT. they are all class IV town roads and are now used mostly for hunting access and snowmobile use in the wintertime.

I recently quit the 10-spline habit. I have now converted to 24-spline both front and rear. For the rear I have been using MaxiDrives for a while. Very dependable rear axle. For the front I am running Maxi-Drive Extreme Duty inners with stock AEU2522 "early D110" CV's. I will eventually send these babies off to Bobby Longfield for the weld and the Crio treatment to make them stronger.
I got the front end together early last week in time for the rally. I ran Behind the Rocks and made it through every obstacle, using the front locker quite a bit.
Saturday I ran Prichette Canyon and again used the front locker constantly. Did not have any problems. I will pull them and inspect them within the next week or two. When I inspect them I will put the correct Maxi-drive drive flanges back on and stop the leaking that is occuring right now.
Regarding what parts are needed. Here is the link for that thread.
