I was wondering if anyone knows of how I can hook a Spicer 3035A (five speed O/D) from a 2.5 ton military truck to an automotive style gas block. I know the bellhousing is a SAE# 3 pattern. I have heard rumors about bellhousings being out there but I have never been able to find one. Any one have anything to share?

PS: Yes I know these things are huge and weigh a ton, if I can make it work it's not going in a rockcrawler.

My buddy has a Allison 440 or something like that behind a 454. His is a 4 speed but you might want to call some bus places that is what most heavyduty auto tranny came in. Worth a try.

The answer is a qualified, "yes". I'm close to done with this swap.
It "only" takes a custom built clutch, a few minor mods to a scattershield and a big billet of Aluminum to machine the adapter out of. After that your going to need the T/O bearing which is not a difficult to locate; however you will have fabricate the T/O Fork (or arm). Then your going to have to build or mod the shift lever, and come up with a seal for the shifter on the top cover.
These Trans do not have a rear mount, like most light duty transmissions do. So your going to have to build that; and then build a new K-member or mod the existing one.
Lastly unless your running a divorced case your going to have to machine a new output shaft and adapter, because AFAIK these gearboxes were not married to their T/C.
I'm a couple of months from having all of this completed. I have carved the adapter on my CNC, and completed the mods to the Bell Housing. I have yet to, machine up a shifter, or design and install a seal for the top of the Trans; and I have to build the rear mount(s).
At this point I'm into it about $1200 including the outright cost of a rebuilt Trans!
