I'm going to lead a pre-run of Last Chance Canyon on the 28th Sept, and a club run during October.
I am looking for someone who has experience in the area to let me know where the "good spots" are. If you wish to join us, even better!!
PM me or just respond.
If you want to just come out anyway, thats fine too!! We'll probably camp somewhere Friday night so we can use ALL of Saturday exporing.
Tim.

I've been through LCC a couple times. Its a fairly mellow trail, but there are a couple spots you can drive through to make it more interesting.
It starts out as a sandy wash, then as you get further up you start getting into rocks and ledges. Its about 4-6 miles in length before it connects with other trails that are maintained for mining operations in the area. Theres a few historic points to check out as well in the area.
No campgrounds that I know of, but theres some flat areas in a little ways you could set up a primitive camp at. Theres some concrete shack foundations there. I doubt you'll find any water running through this time of year.
A stock vehicle can make it, but might sustain some rocker damage.
Hope that helps.

make sure you check out the talc mines. good place to take a break and have lunch or set up camp. shafts big enough to drive a semi in.
No joke here. I was visiting my parents this weekend and started talking wheeling. He tells me this story about back in the late 70's camping at Red Rock Canyon State Park, he finds a little road called Last Chance Canyon, and drives the family car, 69 Olds wagon, about 3-4 miles up it, stacking rocks the whole way. said the only damage was a tranny pan that didn't hold quite as much fluid as before. So watch out! :D

that place had a dirt road through it, back in 82 a flash flood took out most of it. there is parts of that road most of the way. its a sand-wash with some rocks.

Actually that flood was in '84; I remember it well (home from college / summer break and visiting the parents in Ridgecrest when it happened). Last Chance is a good trip; I bagged my first chukkar there, when I was a wee little tyke.

4x4Junkie is right; a couple of years ago I took my new (stock) K1500 through it without any damage. You can spend quite a bit of time driving around that area; I like it. Will probably hit it again around Columbus Day.
