Now dont tear me up to much if this sounds ridiculous I am not a newbie just a broke ass dad.
I have a 10 bolt chevy no flat top knuckles but have some fab skills. I also have an abundance of chevy 1/2 ton parts.
I intend to cut a 2 inch peice off my old passenger side knuckle and attach it with a half sleeve and gussets on all four sides directly to my tie rod a little ways down from the passenger side knuckle then use this tie rod that I happen to bend the shit out of wheelin as the drag link from the steering box to that peice i fabbed on there. I think the bend (old tie rod-new drag link) will clear my spring perfectly. In my mind the bigger of sleeve I make the more contact I will have with the tie rod the stronger it will be so I was thinkin possibly 6 inches long.

I think spendin the 100$ (+ machining)on a flattop is smarter than doing what ever it is your planing. If you do go through it, post up pics, i guess.

So can I just knock the passenger side knuckle off and have the top machined flat, drill it, tap it, and build a drag link that clears the spring. Cause if that is the case then I can have the knuckle machined in a couple hours and build a drag link out of my old tie rod.

no you cant use a knuckle that came on a ten bolt front end it has to be off of a 1977 or older dana 44 front end what your talking about will work but you will have bad bump steer because of the extreme angle the drag link will be at and tecnically in california I belive you are not allowed to have anything welded on steering components it is best to buy a flat top knuckle have it machined and buy or build a arm

the only way I've seen it done and its not the best idea is to build that side up with weld then have it machined. but a flat top most likely cheaper and a way better way to go.

Yup. Read this: http://77cj.littlekeylime.com/flatop_knucles.html

Jeep Wagoneer and Chevy D44 are the ones that have the correct thickness and reinforcement to drill and tap for high steer.

You can buy a kit for $$$$ or DIY cheap, and more importantly SAFELY.

I did highsteer on an 8lug 10 bolt. I used jeep wagoneer D44 flat-top knuckles ($75), had Jnutter machine them ($40 ea), and high steer arms from Ballistic Fab ($200) a chunk if DOM and (2) 7/8"-18 threaded inserts ($50) Stock chevy tie rod ends.

Do us all a favor and do it right.

Your putting your life and everyone elses at risk thats on the road. I know how it is to not have the money, but it worth it to wait and do it right.

drag link to tie rod is called an inverted T, and it comes with its own batch of shittyness, namely steering slop from the tres rolling back and forth as you steer, it can eat a 1/2 turn or more of the steering wheel.
