: The Con was "trashed" this weekend!!!
mcgyver 09-15-2002, 07:50 PM I dunno if people just fig. that since the cleanup is just around the corner that makes it ok to leave trash laying everywhere or what. Just took a midnight run sat. & came out this morn. & saw more crap on the ground (especially in the "box") than i think i have ever seen up there. anyways just thought i'd vent a little and hey , if you are at fault :flipoff2: PACK IT OUT!!!
so you picked up all the trash you saw on the trail - right?
mcgyver 09-15-2002, 08:00 PM more than my share thank you:)

Thank you very much for doing your part
have a beer on me
M'F'ing Sob's. Im sick of these stupid little $hit heads duping thier crap all over our trails. Im damn near the point of slashing thier tires if they leave thier crap everywhere. I hate each of my trail runs turning into garbage collecting outings.
Rant aside, Thanks for doing more than your share of trail preservation for us man!
JeepinIan 09-16-2002, 04:18 AM Read this thread. Becareful what you say on this board.

Bill4rest 09-16-2002, 08:00 AM I'm glad they watch. I'm sick of those fawlkers too.
My 1st time on the Con I saw a drunk ass bastard roll his truck down the side of a hill (at the bottom of the big sluice). The fawlker was so drunk he kept falling down, he couldn’t even stand up! He was not even wearing his seat belt. I never wanted to be a cop in my inter life. I just wish people like that would have played with loaded guns as kids
Belly Dragger 09-16-2002, 08:42 AM I was up the weekend before. I couldn't believe that someone mistook an outhouse for an obstacle.
http://www.mjw.com/amigo/rubi-zu-02-09/images/DSCF0034.jpg
or as something that needed to be pulled apart.
http://www.mjw.com/amigo/rubi-zu-02-09/images/DSCF0035.jpg
This is where the outhouse used to be. I picked up some of this until I was about to puke.

Respect is definately lacking.

Don't people parent their children anymore? I cannot believe that whoever trashed the toilets were wheeling alone. SOmeone witnessed it but won't rat out their friends because they think they were "cool". Fuck cool, this shit ends NOW! All you white trash mutherfawkers better tell your friends that if you are caught doing this you should expect the worst starting with a stranded vehicle that will need to be towed out of the 'Con.
I want to take my step-father wheeling for the first time as a bonding thing and I cringe to think about what he will witness. It's bad enough he suspects this to be a white trash pasttime from looking at my garage.
Maybe I will take him to Prarie City, but they don't allow camping

IronBenderII 09-16-2002, 09:38 AM You can't go to the Con without seeing this crap. So what to do? I wheel with my kids. I'm not going to confront somebody and his buddies and have a 50's style street war swinging axles on the trail in front of them.
We need a system. Perhaps a place we can post the information and somebody who knows a couple of Deputy's that will take charge of passing the information along. We post an incident with a license plate number (don't bother posting without one). The Sherriff gets on the horn and calls the guy up and gives him a warning. "I'm the Rubicon po-po and you are on my list. One more complaint and we'll be at your doorstep with a ranger with a nice ticket for ya.". Something like that. We can rant and rave all we want. But if people don't start getting the word out that there are consequences for their actions, we're just waisting our time and getting our blood pressure up for no reason.
I'll donate $10 for some signs to be made for the Loon lake staging area and another $10 to have stickers for my rig that say something about the Rubicon Volunteer Patrol or something. Lance can make a new section on the board and somebody can talk to the cops and try and get a person they can communicate with.
Without action there cannot be change. There are a lot of people on this board. I don't mean the 12000 members, I mean the 200 active ones that are local and on the trail. 200 people is a lot of power.

StinkBug 09-16-2002, 10:10 AM Yeah i hear you, i wanna take my grandmother out with me to get her to see the good side of 4wheeling, and why I HATE the sierra club (which she belongs to and sent me a membership to :barf: ) but i'm havin a hard time trying to find a place to take her that is nice and scenic, and CLEAN, and its fawkin pissin me off.
Dallas
Bill4rest 09-16-2002, 10:14 AM Well I know for sure when I do take my Mom out, it will be at a place with no event going on:(
Gordon 09-16-2002, 11:52 AM There were also some interesting people up there hiking this weekend, with cameras and tripods and environmental extremist type t-shirts. I tried to talk to one of them, very politely but he just glared at me like I was the devil. He had on a t-shirt with a picture of a guy hugging a tree on the front.
I am glad the Sheriff is watching but I don't like the idea of these people watching.
Priest 09-16-2002, 11:56 AM Unfortunaly it's the same all over. My Girlfriend and I went up to one of my favorite wheelin/camping spots a couple months ago. I spent 2+ hours cleaning up the site after we showed up. Everything from liquor bottles in the fire pit to used toilet paper.
Memorial Day weekend we went to Union Res. and I ended up hauling out two large garbage bags and one trashed inflatable raft...none of which were mine.
I hear ya man and I don't know what we can do. People don't seem to understand that pretty soon..... nobody will get to enjoy these areas. I'm sure the people doing the dumping will be the first one's to complain when an area gets shut down.... :( :( :(
afecko 09-16-2002, 12:18 PM I guess it's time for the talk to stop and the head thumping to begin.
Let me throw down this warning to the MoFo's who are trashing my trails: If you litter, drive off the trail or have fires during times of burn restriction, I will ask you, very politely, to knock it off. If you refuse, you are gonna get a beating. I don't care if I get smacked around by your friends after I'm through with you. You WILL have learned your lesson.
Is this too strong or to mild? Maybe I should just activate my gat right off the bat?
GAWD dammit, this thread ruined my fawkin lunch!
Andy
IronBenderII 09-16-2002, 12:22 PM I know your frusterated, but if this sort of thing starts happening, the Sherrif will have to be out there more actively to keep the peace. That isn't good for us. Neither is having the greenies with a bunch of reports of drunkin muthas fighting and getting hurt.
Get the license plate. I'd bet that a $1000 fine will go farther than an attempted ass woopin.
afecko 09-16-2002, 12:26 PM Addendum:
You know, we must look pretty fawkin dumb. We rally at the Capitol to try and convince the public that our trails should stay open, that we don't need any more wilderness, that we can police ourselves.
Guess what?
We're wrong. If this is the way we are going to be stewards of the land, we don't deserve the 'Con, or any other trail. You think those boys in the enviro-nut T-shirts were up there taking pictures of the pretty Jeeps? HELL NO! I'm sure they got an eyeful of litter at Spider, fresh oil stains and puddles on the rocks, and maybe a picture of a turd or two hundred.
I'm telling you all, unless we all band to gather and become abso-fawkin-lutely hard assed about the abuses, you will be met with a locked gate next time you want to go on a trail ride.
:mad3: Andy :mad3:
Mustard Dog 09-16-2002, 12:31 PM I have yet to wheel the Con, and the more and more of this crap I read makes me not want to go.:(
For all of you that were saying that you want to introduce wheelin to your families, bring them to the Hammers, we don't seem to have these problems down here ;)

Respect is definately lacking.
I talked to Maniac a while ago up there and I believe he told me that the outhouse had a roof on it and it collapsed from the snow.
I agree that trash is a problem that needs to be resolved, but we often jump to conclusions.
Good on you Gordon for engaging the hikers, even if they were not friendly! I always try and wave and say hello to bikers, hikers, and motorcyclists. More often then not they are receptive and friendly in return. I feel that this goes a long way.

Fawkin-A right, Fecko. I just wanna wheel on clean trails. We need some rules for wheeling.
1) Your mother doesn't work here, leave this trail cleaner than you found it.
2) If you are not mechanically inclined enough to stop the fluids running from your rig, stay home and study-up on your Chiltons.
3) Our trail is pretty cool. Stay on the trail until the ride has come to a complete stop in Homewood.
4) Got one touching cotton? So does the 70,000 other visitors. Crap in a hefty bag and truck it out.
5) When you finish your beer it is perfectly acceptable to crush the can and stuff it under your seat rather than pitch it in the bushes. Really, it is.
6) While we are all really impressed that you spent your tuition money on that new amp and subwoofer, some of us go to the great outdoors to escape the trappings of your fine music. Hint: When you ears start to bleed, you might want to turn your music down.
7) Loud screaming at night will not attract members of the opposite sex. If the loud screaming is because of your current "interactions" with the opposite sex, then we will forgive you as long as you post pictures up on this board.
8) Camp fires are nice to stay warm by. Bonfires seen from Mir are not necessary. When you leave, the contents of your bladder is usually inadequate to put the fire dead-out. Fire ban=no fires for those that are english-language challenged.
9) Cigarrette filters are made from polyester. Polyester takes more than 20 years to biodegrade. Yes it is small so it will fit back in your pack or your pocket very easily.
10) My children hear enough foul language while I am wrenching, they don't need to hear from the top of your lungs.
feel free to add to this list.

Rock on!
60WILLYSCJ 09-16-2002, 01:42 PM i agree with posting signs at each end/entrance to the trail. But not just the rubicon. I also like the sticker idea. Something in conjunction with the sheriff or rangers. If we dont patrol it, the greenes will use the bad apples against us and take all the trails away.
And its not just the rubicon.
Our whole family likes camping at bear and I will usually take several trips through squaw ridge during a weekend.. that trail has alot of meadows with flowers, in places its like driving through a park. every year some bozzo has to show off his wheeling skills by driving through the meadow when it is wet. The greenes are after this one as well.
We too packed out a bunch of garbage over labor day, my kids didnt understand why people were such pigs... and this coming from my kids says something.
Guess I'm missing it but If I toss my burger king wrapper out the window on the freeway isnt it a $1000 fine? Each Time? Shouldnt the same apply to the trail? Isnt there some way to enforce it?

That's great, they know at an early age what's right:D :D
I was there last week from Tues-Thurs and thought aside from the usual aluminum cans here and there that it wasn't too bad. Of course the outhouse of the Con...err...I mean Spider lake area is full of TP.
One thing I did notice is where rollovers or break downs have occured. It is not that tough to shovel contaminated soil (gear oil, motor oil, ps fluid, etc.) into a trash bag and hauled out. More people need to start doing this.
mcgyver 09-16-2002, 06:37 PM allright ya'll, sorry for raising your b/p ruining yout lunch hours and so on. but i'm glad there is so many of on this side. i'm all for the sticker idea . i just felt like i wanted to see someone litter that day so i could give them a good thrashin. anyways keep up the patrol . (we'll eventualy weed them out ) . I also saw & talked to a few of the film folks that were there on sun. they said "were not here for the 4-wheelin"duh! "this tree is the main focal point of our film" (the juniper at the top-overlooking the box). my guess would have to be berkley or ucd amature filmmakers.hopefully they didn't pan the box.
Lil Uzi 09-16-2002, 06:44 PM I was with MW at Spider 9/6/02. I assumed the sheds had simply toppled over. What I can't believe is that people don't know how to shiat in the woods. Even wanna be rednecks from Sacramento. You go at least 100 feet from water, the Lake, the Stream, whatever, you dig 4-6 inches, you vote, wipe, BURY. Where we camped at Spider was SHIAT city. Turd papers, on the ground, all around. I too am Ex-Sierra club. In the High country, tree hugger city, they at least know how to bury a turd. Every 4x4 trail has "Pirate Hershey Kisses", little wisps of white paper atop a chocolate kiss, on the ground. Where were you fawkers raised at, a shiat hole ?
I cant believe people need to be told this. Rant aside, this was my first Con trip, unforgettable. Yeah, another Amigo goes con. The trail almost perfectly clean, no A-hole noise, gunshots. Thanks to all who preceeded me and did their share. Thanks to all of you and your effort to maintain this special place.:crybaby:
