: choppin top on the rig
mjs408 09-15-2002, 08:51 PM i have seen some toyota with the top and rear glass cut away, any body ever done it on there fullsize dodge ? one thing i havent seen though is a top that you can put back on, and if you could, how well would it hold the elements out? i know if it was done a full cage would be needed
FULLSIZE 09-15-2002, 09:09 PM bad idea.
mjs408 09-15-2002, 09:11 PM i trust your judgement, but WHY?
GRMhick 09-16-2002, 12:20 AM i thought about something like that, but gave up on the idea.. i was going to mount up the top off of a ramcharger on the truck, and use the ramcharger windshield frame, just cut and weld it. then, just make it flat under where the rear window used to be, then cut the RC top so it would be where the back of the cab used to be. then work on your fiberglass skills so you can make in that rear window again. TO me, too much work, but possible.. but i also want to knwo why fullsize says bad idea
pcorssmit 09-16-2002, 07:38 AM I think there was a write up somewhere in the Toy section about making the factory PU roof removeable.
Also, someone (maybe JC Whitney?) used to make convertible top kits for PUs. Although I think most of them ended up on 2wd trucks w/gold Daytons.

FULLSIZE 09-16-2002, 11:21 AM they never stay weather tight and unless you put an exocage around the top, if you rollover it could seperate the top from the rest of the body and might do the same to you.;) just my.02
mjs408 09-16-2002, 12:16 PM what about choppin the top and just leaving it off? incase of rain, get a bikini top made?
FULLSIZE 09-16-2002, 12:51 PM that would work, but it will be a fair weather vehicle unless you have a soft top made. i loved not having a top or windshield on my jeep in the good weather months. maybe i'm just a little biased, lookin forward to a top, doors and a heater this winter.:D
mjs408 09-16-2002, 01:34 PM your from cali, you dont even know whats its like to have a winter, unless your a transpant from a state that really has one, try iowa's some time, its ruthless, real ruthless, days of -20 degrees and 35 mile per hour winds now thats winter, your winter is like spring here
FULLSIZE 09-16-2002, 03:45 PM wow, did i hit a nerve?:flipoff2: i get snow here twice a year :D well if your winters are that cold, even more of a reason to keep the heat in. i say dont chop, but cabs are cheap if you end up not liking it.;)
mjs408 09-16-2002, 07:10 PM a nerve, never i dont get worked up about some retard(myself included) talking shit over the internet, just bringing to light how easy you kalifornia krackers got in in reguards to weather and wheelin, slim pickins around here, now that whole smog test thing i can go with out.....
waterdog 09-16-2002, 11:00 PM You can't call fullsize a retard. He might get offended. But you are right. He is a retard
FULLSIZE 09-17-2002, 01:45 PM :crybaby2:
:flipoff2:
mjs408 09-17-2002, 10:31 PM wanna see something neat?!
:flipoff2:
but anyways, ya, im still thinking a chopped top would be good fun, like you said fullsize, like a jeep, and i mean whats better than doors off, top off cruisin in a cj, and what i wanna do would purdy much make the rig into a cj a big ulgy cj at that
FULLSIZE 09-18-2002, 02:47 AM ............except better. and a whole lot more room. i'll take back what i said earlier. fawk it, cut it just send some pics when you do. oh one other thing, i saw a toy cut like your talkin and he got the back of the door jam wedged on a rock and it folded the cab back pretty bad. maybe use some kind of tube doors or something to tie it to the front or the cage.;)
440-fide Ramcharger 09-21-2002, 09:19 AM Do what I did. Put the guts from my 76 PW into a 75 Ramcharger.
