:mad3:

My fiance's Cobra was stolen sometime Monday night/Tuesday morning. There were only 2000 made in that year so it's not like it's a common vehicle.

Montague/River Oaks area, Elan Apartments.

It's black and I'll find some pictures to post up ASAP. I know I have some.

Anything would be helpful, thank you!!

Laurel

FOUND! 13 months later, holy shit. SJPD called Russ, they found it sitting in a parking lot 1/2 mile from his apartment. Intact. No damage, unlocked. He just sent me pictures through the fence at impound. The business had reported it as an abandoned vehicle and he's trying to get it right now.
Insurance does not own it, they denied the claim on it, insist that he had cancelled theft coverage a year before it was stolen. (bullshit) he's fought them on this for months and finally gave up.

He's not gotten inside it yet, but impound asked for current registration (on a car you figured is gone 13 months ago??) but gave in after admitting they had found the old registration in the glove box still.

The hell? I don't get it, it's filthy, looks like it's been sitting outside for 13 months but to find it 1/2 a mile away like this? I can't wait until he can dig through the car and see if he finds anything incriminating. Would really like to know the details on this one.

No visible signs of vandalism or damage, but won't run. He's getting it towed to his mechanic tonight.

That sounds awesome and weird! Surprised it was not accidentally spotted being that close.

It was stashed down a dead end street he has never had a reason to go down in a parking lot. He sent pictures last night, it's beyond filthy and covered in goose poo. His CD's were still in there even, so who ever took it doesn't like his music. Mechanic has it stashed inside and was able to get the engine to turn over after giving the battery a bit of juice.

He must have called me a kajillion times last night. :smokin:

How many more miles on it than it when it was stolen?

Crazy, just noticed its still got the plates and everything, like someone pushed it into there yard and forgot it about for 13 months. Congrats.

I know, this is all so surreal. It has less than a hundred miles added to it. I'm betting some kids grabbed it and then realized they were in over their heads.
He has two cars and they were parked in the locked basement level of his parking garage. The Geo was broken into (busted out a back window) and he had the valet key for the Cobra in the glove box. Exiting the locked garage is by motion sensor but the actual door sensor to get back in was tucked into the visor.
The parking lot it was found in belongs to some condo units. They said it had been sitting out there for between 6 - 8 months. It was found unlocked. Friends are already asking if he hadn't just forgotten where he parked it but as odd as this all sounds, this is the way it went down.

Ya know how you know your SO loves you? I knew the day he handed me the keys to the Cobra and let me drive it on 101. Until it was stolen I was the only person he's allowed to drive it. He'd never eaten anything in that car and it was babied and cared for so he is REALLY happy to have it back.

That is so bizzare. Glad you guys got it back... can't believe it just sat there for a year, unlocked, and even the fawkin' cds are still there....

Thanks! We should hear from the mechanic tonight or tomorrow, I'll post the end results back up and if the police find anything out. At this point I think they consider it case closed though.

The cobra runs! Scheduled for a detail on Monday. The official inventory of missing items is the valet key and a flashlight.
Seriously starting to doubt the person that called it in. Who lets an abandoned car sit in their lot for 8 months? These were condo's btw so I really think our guilty party is somewhere in there.
It's been re-keyed and the alarm re-coded as well.

Looks like a happy ending to me!

Wow thats amazing. Congrats on getting the car back. Really weird that somebody would just take it and then never drive it again. My guess is kids out for a joy ride.

Thanks! He burned through an entire tank of gas over the weekend, think he's happy it's back as well.

That's awesome. Especially being that long missing. I would have given it up a long time ago.
