My Granddad has a 2000 Jeep Sarahara. He is looking to do the old swapper to the HEMI. Before we dig to deep however I wanted to know the answer from some people who have done the swap.
I not being a world class welder (to say the least ) cannot weld the motor mounts, so we will be having to have a shop do the work, which they quoted $1000 for labor + $250 for mounts. Does that seem fair? Seems high to me?
What should we expect to pay for a HEMI? I have been looking around and have found numerous different prices. Looks like I can pick up a decent below 30k miles HEMI with 4wd transmission for $1500-$2000. Sound accurate?
We would get the harness from Hotwire Auto. Which I heard was $1500. Does this pricing sound accurate? I figure it would be $5000 once we're all said and done. Does the radiator need to be replaced? What other little things will I need to stack up? Anyway to save money?
Thanks for any help!

I'll preface this with saying i've never done a hemi swap, but I've got a local shop that seems to be one of the premier shops in the country for hemi swaps and they range from 20 to 40k for hemi swaps. it might be worth a call and pick their brains a bit. http://burnsvilleoffroad.com/
this WILL nickel and dime you to death either way.

Motor prices sounds ok
Wiring, as long as it comes w/ a programmed pcm, not bad
motor mounts...outrageous. I'd look for a local 4x4 shop and see what they say.
Figure on a cooling sys upgrade, and like what was posted above...nickle and dime.

I'm figuring $5500 for the swap.... Dream land? I contacted Desert Rat and they said $15k for the swap, which I don't know ehere all the money goes.... Hell my Jeep cost $15k to build! Outrages.
I can give them a call and pick their brains out, but I'm not sure what more questions to ask them?
Funny thing is Desert Rat was the same place that told me $1000 for the swapping (as far as welding, and swapping each engine). Where do they get the extra $14k? They must make it ALL on labor, no way parts are that much.

you're looking into a good 5500-9000k to do the whole swap. i'm looking into doing it myself and i've averaged everything around 10k. And this is to make sure that it's DOT/CARB appoved.
as of the parts you mentioned Advanced Adapters, Doc's Blocks and Hotwire Auto have complete kits that run around 4k and that's including PCM flashed. all you have to do is find some one to weld the mounts, that's pretty much the pain of the swap.

I agree with the 5 - 9k figure, including all materials and labor. There are many things that come up as the swap goes by, like the engine cooling thing, adapters, corrections, mufflers, etc.

We are looking to make the Jeep pass emissions as well. I delt with a 5.0L swap with my CJ7, but it did not pass emission (though that wasn't our intention anyhow).
No more than 10k, no less than 5k. Sounds like a plan, it's not my money going into it anyways. :grinpimp:
I didn't account for the exhaust, which would probably run $500-$700. The 545rfe trans bolts up to the NP231, so no adapters are needed I know.
Awesome, thanks for the help guys.
