okay the tranny is the 5 speed nv4500 with a dual friction centerforce clutch. if im going 70.. then from there as i accelerate to 77 it'll make this pinging sound coming FROM the tranny.. it's right under the tunnel cover im positive.. it sounds like a small BB in a jar being bounced around.. it only does this in 4th and 5th gear (5th the most) .. if im going 70 or so and i let off the gas in 5th i hear a clunking sound in the rear.. then i gas it and i hear it again... any ideas? im afraid i might have a potentially serious problem! also SOMETIMES when put into reverse it stalls EASILY.. it has to go real slow and i have to feather the clutch to keep moving... need your guy's help this is my DD and im a poor stupid school boy! thanks!

Lets look at the easy stuff first. If your running a detroit in the rear that could be the clunk but check everything to make sure its all tight. Also it could be your drive shaft, if you are running a cv joint at the t-case it coudl be worn and making noise. These are the likely culprits to your problem. As far a easy to stall in reverse I'm not sure what to tell you, but wouldn't be concerned as long as it not making noise. I have had 4500's that make misterious noises that could not be found, even after a complete rebuild, but look at the drive shaft motor and trans mounts first.

Yeah, no kidding. I have an NV4500 and since it was new, 5 1/2
years ago it sounds like a cement mixer while it's idling in neutral
with the clutch engaged. I've heard other "noises" from other
people's NV4500's that have never been explained. I do agree
though, check the rear driveshaft first.
