: bob from the middle

So I rolled the scout this year and fucked up the rear quarter and end cap, now that I am looking to finally bob the POS, I have a shit load of body work to get a good cut/weld surface.

So I decided to chop 12 inches out right above the wheel well. Then tub the wheel wells and cut new fender openings.

the advantages are that I can leave the mangled quarter as is (most likely just fawk it up again anyway:rolleyes: ) and I can use the existing body mount locations for the tub. plus when I recut the fender wells I can cut out most of the damage.

I got it all taped off this weekend, and then got to wondering if there is something I did not consider? I figured if anyone would tell me the idea was fawked up it was y'all.:flipoff2:

So what is the verdict??

I would measure the width of the bed as it goes back. I chopped a SII top in the middle and went to slide the SOB back together and the rear piece was 2.5 inches narrower than the front piece. I am not sure if this 'narrowing effect' only happens on the top but knowing for sure would only take a few measurements.

Chris

You won't have any problems with he tub getting narrower as it goes back, its the same all the way. When i bobbed the DandC Extreme truck i use the rear most body support (behind the wheelwells) as the new locaton on the body mount, worked good and turned out to be 18" bobbed off.

I cut 15 inches out from behind the wheel wells to the seam at the tail light caps. Drilling the spot welds out allows me to replace the tail light cap when needed. I made the new rear body mount over the crossmember that the rear shocks bolt to using 1 inch poly bushings and running the bolts through the frame.http://www.ihssii.org/public_html/IHSSII/otherssiifolders/slip/farewellrockgarden1.jpg

In that pic, it looks like the axles are welded to the frame with no springs....:D

No. That's what it looks like with 4" lift springs and a spring over with 40" tires.
