might be an inept searcher, but i did not find my answers here
wantin to put a yj steering box and lower intermediate shaft joint in a 1983 cj7
the boxes are similar, i'm assuming they can swap easy or a conversion mount can be obtained, i plan to get a stronger box mount anyway, and i know i will need conversion lines, but it's never as simple... is there a mount issue i'm unaware of, would i possibly need a new pitman arm, and also could i slip a yj lower intermediate shaft into a cj upper intermediate shaft?
the engine is a chev 350 so it's probably the chev steering pump but i can't be sure, and it is running a cj box and shaft at the moment on a stock mount which flexes from curb flexing let alone wheeling, that's gettin chucked once i kno the best aftermarket mount for this setup.
thanks for readin

I bolted a 95 YJ steering box to my 77 CJ using the CJ mount. The lower YJ shaft slides into the CJ upper. I have a chevy pump too, used a CJ PS hose and cut the pump end off and double flared it for the chevy pump. the set-up works very well.

sweet thats what i wanted to hear :D
how did the cj line work on the yj box with the chev pump? i thot the box ends were different as well as the pump ends... the lines already fit the pump they just need to fit the yj box... been told there was a change to flares and also at some point jeeps changed to metric lines
i'm a bit paranoid about the procedure since this is a DD and can have very little down time

...and also at some point jeeps changed to metric lines...

Data point:

My 1987 (first year model) YJ has a metric threaded pressure line fitting where it screws into the pump. My guess is all YJs do.

alright thanks jakester
tryin to figure out if someone local can mod the lines for me as needed, gotta find a used box too
is there another model of vehicle with a box that will bolt in if i can't find a yj box?

Just noticed this... The answer is: Just about any ham-can-shaped Saginaw power steering pump should be adaptable to work. I recently replaced my Ramjet 350 with a 2007LQ4 (Chevy truck 6.0 liter). I'd had the original (ham can, Saginaw) power steering pump from the 1987 Heep 4.2 I-6 on the Ramjet 350 and when I replaced the engine, I compared it to the (ham can, Saginaw) pump off the 2007 Chevy, they were more or less identical. Everything from the position of the mounting holes to the size/threads of the pressure line fitting. Only thing different was the hardware (SAE vs metric threads). They were completely interchangeable.

Sorry about the late reply,
