If you have the 3 leaf 3/4 ton spring can you take a leaf out to make it a 1/2 ton spring?

What's the point in making it a 1/2. Are they to stiff? Or is this going on a DD

3/4 ton and 4x4 are 4 spring and the overload (total of 5). Some 2wd 1/2 tons were 2 spring with over load (3 totoal). But in my opinion 3 spring (overload taken out) work great for pick ups and the 4 spring (over load taken out) work best for 4 runners or pick ups with a lot of weight (seats,full cages, etc)

Iv used both previously and like Dave said the 3 leaf minus overload work great for lighter rigs, and the 4 leaf minus overload work well for heavier.
