I realize that a 1969 Dodge Monaco/Polara is not a 4x4, but I don't know where else to ask these questions. I know that one of you guys has experianced a similar problem.--Here goes--

Car runs well with the exception that there is a constant draw on the battery.(according to the ampmeter). Even with the key in the off position, the battery will drain overnight.

The first thing that I did was to remove all the fuses.--Still had drain.

Replaced external voltage regulator- Still had drain.

Changed generator to alternator.--No change in drain.

Checked as much of the wireing for shorts and burned wires as possible-- all looks good.
Pulled dash apart and didn't see anything wrong.
Disconnected old ampmeter and hooked up new aftermarket ampmeter and could not get power to the starter relay.
Re-installed old ampmeter and car would start again.

How do I locate the draw?
I have disconnected every wire that I can find to disconnect and am still showing the draw.

What to do???----Helllllp Please.
Thanks a lot
Dale

have you changed the battery? try another battery. also unbolt the main power wire off the starter and see if thats the draw.;)

The best way I have found to find a draw,
Hook up a trouble light from the negative terminal of the battery to the negative terminal clamp ( In series with the main ground circuit). If the trouble light is on that indicates a short in the system. I like to start with the fuse box and pull one at a time, if the light goes out you have found the problem circuit. Start to back track the problem from there. If all of the fuses check out Ok, go to the Ignition switch (When these go bad inside they ground out the system and will cause this problem). No luck there? Try the lights or any power switches that have a hot wire when the ignition is in the off position. When you find the short and disconnect it the trouble light will go off.. Good luck man and may the force be with you!

Ok just came to me. you said that the ammeter circuit is not working with the new aftermarket setup. this sounds like the problem spot. I had a ford van that did this same thing last year. I ended up replacing the ignition and taking the ammeter out of the circuit. Problem solved. If this works for you dont put the ammeter back in this circuit, find a different ignition swithched circuit to hook it up to.

Try the starter.
