I figured i should start a new thread in stead of taintingthe tend of my truggy build so heres my 97 defender
90 that a buddy of mine ENDOED off a Wash and trashed it pretty good..

So far i have put on a new euro tub, new front wings, new skins. I have the full NAS cage and a softop. It has the nice cold A/C.

so far I have New 35 inch Kevlar MTRS, OME springs, fox rear shocks, bucks CNC vents, and soon the new Rovertracks front CVs and rovertracks yota Rear! its just a mild Daily driver cruiser that can beat up the trail if I feel like leaving the truggy at home, or if break it...

Very nice Lane. The sad thing is that you got that together faster than I will probably get the one in my driveway put back together and I'm being paid to do it!

But, I'm fixing rust damage. I'm not sure if crash damage wouldn't be easier, certainly more fun.

Keep up the good work!

And finally you have a D90 now, it was time :flipoff2:

Final colour?Any plan?
I'd go with a dark grey if not black, but under the sun of Utah I guess it could be uncomfortable...

Yeah i kicked around the idea, im just decomplicating my vehicle stash though, so the truck, which sold tonight, and the trug were on the chopping block... Ill still have it for a few more months before i do anything with it so we will see what happens...

But with the defender being a rollover and never being exactly perfect, Im just gonna make it in to a sweet road/ offroad machine like brendons that will tear everything up...

The axles are going under the 90, the beadlocks, and maybe the seats.. the rest will stay on the disco.. so it will still be a coilovered d1...

Only in the US do people have this ’’dont scratch it, it’s a Landrover’’ idea. Landrovers are like jeeps everywhere else in the world and are used accordingly. If you not going to wheel it, sell the damn thing and get a Corolla!
You should have seen the way the guys at RoversNorth looked at my Ex-MOD when I showed up this summer. They were all like ’’ its dented and dirty! how could someone do that to a Defender. It should be all shiny and waxed.’’ The only thing that gets waxed around here is my girlfriend!

hoggyn

They are just Colway 235/85 retreads. But for some reason they are taller than most other 235/85s I've seen. That coupled with the fact that the S1 is smaller in profile than a 90 probably makes the tyres look bigger than they really are.

Lookin good bro. I've got by buddy sending me some pics my old SG droop kit if you want to go that route. The X-Eng kit looks nice but I'm not sure it will be as quite and not as cheap!

We all struggle with best setup vs our needs/wants. I've been wrenching and wheeling mine for 14 years but its still hard damage it. My fear is that I tear it up beyond repair, one day it will happen. Even with a 10 year old suspension setup to does pretty good on pretty much everything. But sometime pretty good is not good enough so I'm thinking about stepping back a notch, converting to standard coils and fixing her up to more of a DD status taking some of the goods off for a buggy. But only if the wife will give me a green light on buggy project sometime soon. If it does happen I'll be taking way longer to build than you do, I don't know where you find the time!

Not to tell you how to do it or anything......! Don't forget to weld tabs and bolt it together so you can remove the motor @ a later date(oops). I took 1 1/2 tube and kinked it on the ends head'n downward and left it long so I could roll it abit forward to fit right in front of the plenium but behind the alternator. It doesn't look like you have a dizzy so you should have plenty of room. I thought that not have'n the cross-over right on top of the hoops and being bolted together would sacrifice strength.....and it might have but I beat the live'n shit outta her for about 2 yrs with no fitigue or stress bends on the hoops or the brace. Look'n good thou! I might be move'n to Utah in a few months with a job transfer and will give ya a call if you PM me yer shit. Hurry and finish so we can see some carnage pic's. Good luck.

I have concluded you have a VERY understanding wife. My g/f just asks 'why do you need all these cars?' it is my series,
here is a crappy cell phone pic of the last modifications to the frame that were completed by my brother (he is on this board as tydes, owner of 4lockedfilms, g-fab). He finished the last of the add ons to the frame, and had it sandblasted before final paint yesterday.

Yeah matt, game on! :D

OK MORE MORE MORE>> tonight was very productive thanks to my buds showing up...

Well tonight I took my 30 spline rear end out of the trug, I cut off the coilover tabs... next I took stock axle out, and I cut the coil spring perches off so I could weld them onto my old housing.. over all I think it came out AWESOME!! and i looks very clean and strong..

I still need to put on my new rear rovertracks links, but i was in a hurry tonight..

Also the rear springs are OME 762 disco front springs... In the rear they give it a perfect height. My new softer and shorter front coilover springs will be here tomorrow so it will be level..

Kyle_T
09-24-2009, 09:50 PM

The cage plan is a SD clone with a Baja lgiht bar on the front.. But the A pillar and B pillar will go to the sliders, and the c pillar will go to the bumperetters.. then the whole thing will be tied to the frame..

As far as the van sides its gonna stay that way for now, I have glass and seals if I decide to put them in later.. I dont know yet...

Seriously, I want to thank lane for helping me out. I went to his house thursday night and he gave me a bunch of stuff that I'm not sure I know how to install but I will get it together. He also inspired me because his shop is alot like mine. I have no more excuses.

For everyone who dosn't do shit to their truck because they dont feel they have the shop to do it you should see lanes. His shop is barely long enough to fit the d90 (i guess its a D96 now) and he has to let the air out of his tires when he rolls it in at night.

I have found that the way to get things done is to look at what you want to fix. Then cut it off (plasma cutter, grinder, sawzall, hacksaw if you have to). Then figure out how to fix what you just did. You learn a lot more by fucking up and having to fix you mistake than you do by having someone show you how to do it right the first time. I can get expensive but we wouldn't be working on rovers if we didn't like spending money.

I'm not sure if that made any sense.:flipoff2:

Seriously, I want to thank lane for helping me out. I went to his house thursday night and he gave me a bunch of stuff that I'm not sure I know how to install but I will get it together. He also inspired me because his shop is alot like mine. I have no more excuses.

For everyone who dosn't do shit to their truck because they dont feel they have the shop to do it you should see lanes. His shop is barely long enough to fit the d90 (i guess its a D96 now) and he has to let the air out of his tires when he rolls it in at night.

Oh and almost forgot - omfg a real plastic LR hardtop in the wild (on that yellow d90 next to yours) - haven't seen one of those in a LONG while. I had one when I bought my defender - it was starting to break down (cracks and such) after only about a year so I unloaded it.

Yeah and its actually in decent shape.. especially since he wheels it and im sure theres some body flex that has to be hard o nthe fibeglass....

OHh and the hooks on the bumper are gonna be gone that was the PO great idea...

I would cut the fenders to match the plane of the bumper. It would flow a lot better. Now the other option would be to pop the front panels out, send them to Buck and have him CNC some dicks into them.:flipoff2:

I have dual rate.. the lower is a 14 inch spring at 350lb, the upper is a 10 inch spring at 200 lbs...

I had the upper as a 12 inch 250 lb, but it was ginormus.....

how is the cage tied in? have you got lateral supports through the cab?

you don't think the van sides will shit you? mine came off pronto after 2 or 3 runs from lack of vision, then soft top all the way. although where you guys wheel probably not the concentration of trees that we have.....

can't wait to see your thoughts on the coilovers, i will be watching with interest to learn for my little wombat...one day...

Thanks!

The cage is tied in to the sliders on both sides at the a and b pillar, and they are tied directy to the frame and the bulkhead outrigger. The rear is tied into the bumperettes which are welded directly onto the rear crossmember, so the whole thing is tied into the frame..

As far as lateral supports it will have the lower windshield bar, and a bar that goes behind the seats right above the rear cab bulkhead, from b pillar to b pillar.. that will also be my harness mounting spot. The c pillar lateral support i havnt figured out yet. I want to run it across, but i want it to swing away as well, I have some ideas, but I havent figured out how to do that yet with it still looking good.

Anyone got any pics of two tone defenders?
