: Look what I got at a sale
trailpunisher 08-15-2009, 05:59 PM I just bought a Kearney & Trecker 2D rotory head mill and a American laithe at a sale nere my house. I only paid 150 for the mill and 50 for the laithe:smokin: I also got a truck load of tooling. They both have some surface rust and are dirty but will clean up nicely they are both very tight and they run great.
Jeep07 08-15-2009, 06:24 PM Score!
aussiejoeblow 08-16-2009, 12:39 AM nice score! the mill looks great, love those old curvy shapes. don't see that anymore.
Flatline's Up! 08-16-2009, 06:50 AM I'll give you double your money, but you have to deliver and help set it up...
:flipoff2:
great score man. Post up some pics after clean up and once you start making chips!
1TON73K5 08-16-2009, 08:03 AM That has to be one rigid mill with all that beef there. As big as it is I would look into a cnc retro fit for X, Y axis.

I'm only four hours away, I'll give $250 AND come get it!
Nice score, sadly, you paid about what they are bringing these days, there must be a bazillion of the old K/Ts out there still.

No need for that I allready have a bridgeport full cnc mill.:D I bought this so I would have a manual machine to. I also have another laithe but not much tooling for it. That is why I bought this one is for all the tooling. I think I got like 5 or 6 four jaw chucks and 2 three jaws and a ton of other stuff I just havent had time to go threw all of it yet.
jeep937 08-16-2009, 04:19 PM You make chips so big you can sell them as whole pieces of billet.
Azzy2000 08-16-2009, 05:35 PM Good deal.. The mill is a bit of a specialty piece. The reason the head is so big is that in addition to normal milling operations, the whole spindle can rotate eccentric to the head.

I've been trying to talk a friend of mine out of a K/T that was set up for tapping, the spindle can be fed into the workpiece at the same rate the table moves up. It's fascinating to watch.
Caper 08-16-2009, 11:14 PM What is the purpose of the eccentric head?

It can be offset up to 4" radius. Weight of the machine is around 5,200 lbs.
aussiejoeblow 08-17-2009, 04:23 PM thats cool!
SirMrManGuy 08-18-2009, 07:28 PM That K&T would make a kick ass tube notcher if you could tilt the head like on a Bridgeport.
1TON73K5 08-18-2009, 09:18 PM I forgot about mills with that capibility, nice find. Very useful feature.
PAToyota 08-19-2009, 07:43 AM Now for the $25.42 question - are those pictures of them in your shop or from where you bought them from? Have you moved them yet?
bgaidan 08-19-2009, 12:12 PM The bigger question is, will he be charged with theft after stealing them at those prices?
Todd W 08-19-2009, 04:32 PM Damn that's a nice score
Now make some chips and show us what nifty stuff you make with these new tools :D

I've never seen that before, pretty cool capability for a manual machine.
