well I have been hunting this odd noise for months. just when I think its fixed it reapears. it sounds like a suspension pop but you can feel it in the floor under your feet like someone tapping on the floor with a hammer. only lately has it been quiet until I drove it in the rain then it was going like crazy. so far I retorqued all the cab mounts with locktight, and the only GM bullitin I found was for washers on the crossmember bolts. did all that and still ain't right yet.

Jack up the front end and check the balljoints.

I doubt a HMMWV manuel will be any help for an H2.

well Its raining again today. maybe I'll try and find it again? as for things I tried. I pulled all the skids and ran without. tried retorquing every visable bolt ahead of the axle. checked the bolts in the front suspension to see if cams were moving. I have jacked up the control arms one by one to see if the ball joints would drop or have visable play in them, even tried prying up and down on them while the load was off the tire.
I did notice one strange thing. on the side of the cowl panel cover on only the left side I am getting wear around the two 6mm bolt heads that hold it down under the hood. I checked them to be tight and they were.

My truck has been making the same noise when you turn the wheel or hit a change in terrian (i.e pulling into a driveway). I'm 99.9 percent sure it's the CV.

I'm getting the same sound / feel in my wifes H3. Can't find the source anywhere, everything feels very solid upon inspection...

Just an up date. never have found the source of the noise. however I did buy an whole set of ball joints and am going to install shortly. we'll see if that fixes it.

sway bar bushings or mounts?

Lots of possibilities for front end noise on the H2. I have had tons of different noises from all of the following:

wheel hubs
ball joints
tierods
pitman/idler arms
sway bar bushings
body mounts
skid plate
UCP rubbing on exhaust
rock rails bolts
busted shock or loose shock mounts
loose muffler and exhaust brackets

To find some of the noises, I just get under the truck with a rubber hammer and beat things until I find the noise. My latest noise was from a busted front shock. I have also had a busted rear shock that sounded like it was coming from the front end because the noise would travel down the frame.

Good Luck!
