Imkunfused 09-16-2002, 10:45 AM Steve Mayo. I dont know if any of you know him, but the person i work with, she was friends with him and he died saturday when he went off the road driving and flipped his jeep. From what she said he was driving on Foresthill rd. She mentioned some from far-n-gone might know him.
Moment of silence for another lost.

offroadr35 09-16-2002, 10:54 AM sorry
i can't say it enough...if the engine is on, WEAR A SEATBELT! i don't know if he was or not but they really do save lives. Also, rollcages are more important than any other mod...don't skimp out just because they don't add traction, flex or horsepower.

Foresthill man killed in SUV crash
Rollover accident occurred in Lake Clementine area
By Erin Gallup-Main, Journal Staff Writer
A Sports Utility Vehicle rolled over several times on Foresthill Road Saturday afternoon, killing it's driver and closing at least one lane of the road for about 15 minutes, according to officials.
Placer County Sheriff's Coroner Department is investigating the death.
Sgt. Kevin Borden said Foresthill resident Steven Walter Mayo, 34, died in the accident.
"It appears the victim was ejected from the vehicle and sustained major trauma to the head and body," Borden said. "We'll do a coroner's autopsy to pinpoint the exact cause of death."
Mark McNeese, a public safety dispatcher said California Highway Patrol received a call at 4:56 p.m., reporting the accident by lower Lake Clementine.
As of Sunday afternoon, he said a full-report was not available on the incident.
He said a CHP airplane took photos of the incident and officers were on the scene until 7 p.m.
"At 5:15 p.m. a unit cleared the lower end of Lake Clementine and let traffic through," McNeese said.

KYODER 09-16-2002, 11:28 AM Thanks Dan good info. I'm sure that someone from my club knows him if he is from Forresthill- Auburn.
Kendo 09-16-2002, 11:39 AM I drove past there about 15 minutes after it happened. I think he was killed pretty much instantly, he was thrown out of the Jeep. Very eery feeling driving by the scene with the yellow sheet out there. Looks as if the Jeep rolled a couple of times before coming to rest on the hillside.

SeanP 09-16-2002, 12:24 PM sad, my heart goes out to his family.
IronBenderII 09-16-2002, 12:25 PM This scares the hell out of me. I used to just climb out of the rig, unlock the hubs, air up and head out. Now I spend a good deal of time inspecting shit before I go. Check the bolts on the radius arms, steering, rear springs, lug nuts, the works. I have my kids with me and am not willing to risk anything just to save an hour or so.
And when I hit the highway, I've got the full harness going. Lab belts don't do much good when half of your body is hanging out the side of the rig to get rolled on. Same with the kids. They're in so tight they can barely turn their heads.

afecko 09-16-2002, 12:29 PM I drive that road every day, saw the scene this morning.
Ugliness. Be careful out there, y'all.

This is very good advice. I still drive to the trails and back and it is amazing how loose your CA bolts, u bolts, steering box bolts can get. I spend a lot of time under my jeep after a trip.

I must of came by at about the same time as Kendo approximately 5:30 pm, Very Sad to drive by and see the yellow sheets, he appeared to roll up the hill. We thought he must of hit the guardrail and went rolling across the road. coming down the hill we saw the battery, 40 feet further there was the jeep, 60 feet further the yellow sheets and 40 feet further down the windshield.
please wear good seatbelts in your vehicle particularily open ones. The jeep looked pretty banged up but the rollcage held up just fine.
my condolences to his family and loved ones.
