I am normally pretty self sufficient, but I've got Check Engine code #21 that keeps plaguing me. 97 4.0, stock, OBD-II. My Factory Service Manual says front O2 sensor which I have replaced twice. I clear codes by disconnecting battery for a few minutes, then run the vehicle. Idles fine and then after about 15 minutes of idleing, there is that damn light. Using the old on-off-on-off-on trick the codes read 12, 21, 55.
I don't want to go to the dealer, but I need a shop that has full diagnosis equipment for this Chrysler engine. Any suggestions?

the 12 is a battery disconnect code, it just means that your battery has been disconnected in the past 50 key-on cycles.
55 is end of codes.
I'll bet you a dollar that you have a wiring problem on your front o2 sensor. follow the wiring alongside the iol pan and up to the intake manifold. you may havea melted wire on one of the manifolds. and make sure that the connector on the oil pan backet is in good condition with none of the prongs pushed out and slathered with di-electrc grease.

Yep, I tracked this wiring up to the manifold, alongthe fuel rail and into the wiring harness. It all looks solid.

hmmm... I thought a 21 error code could be for either sensor? Might wanna check the one at the cat also before spending the $$$ at the dealer.
