My team is going to constantly update me with info and pics throughout the week, and I plan on posting them here to let everyone know what is going on with the Fishmouth Fab-works "Land-use" rig #4405 in the V2R 1,000 mile desert race.

My job is to basically be "Weather-man" and work the communications for the team. Along with the BITD tracking, we got SPOT units and SAT phones (Thanks MFS!) to help us out.

Yes, there will be pictures of Steph in this thread. :D

We are on a shoe string budget.

We are the "little guy"

Yeah, we got a pretty bad-ass fab guy with Dan Trout from Fishmouth Fabworks on the team, but other than that it's just Rock Zombie club members, family members and a few good friends helping out.

Travis's dad is crew chief. Steph's dad is also working in the pits.

Travis has NO desert racing experience (Trout does however), but has spent a LOT of time behind the wheel of rigs since he was just a little guy. Still, Trav is gonna "Ironman" this race and do it all himself.

I saw Travis Friday night at Trout's shop, and right now he is the happiest, most excitied guy in the world. He is JUICED.

It's been a tough job trying to get sponsors, and when we were about to lose all hope: HASA Pool Products stepped in, along with the guys from MFS to help us out. Also has some major help from another major 4x4 "notable" but I do not know if he wants to be named or not. (He can chime in if he does)

Finished the car on Saturday night, then ran it at Praire City on Sunday, only to end up with tranny problems. Those are now fixed (Once again thanks to MFS, Papa Smurf (Keith) and FISHMOUTH FAB-WORKS)

Team is underway right now to Vegas.

HASA Pool Products joins with OV Rocksports as a title sponsor for the TSCO “Vegas to Reno the long way” desert race in the 4400 Ultra 4 class. Rock Zombie 4x4 club member Travis Carpenter and spotter Dan Trout of FishMouth Fabworks (www.fishmouth-fabworks.com) will compete in the 4405 “land-use” buggy in an attempt to qualify for the 2010 King of the Hammers race.

With Travis’s father Stan Carpenter as crew chief, land-use activist Kurt Schneider as manager/promoter, and strong pit support by his Rock Zombie club members, Travis has formed a team of committed individuals. While Dan Trout has experience in the desert scene, Travis Carpenter brings only his experience in trail riding and competitive rock crawling which he has been involved in for many years.

According to Travis, “I may be the underdog in this race, but we are in it to win it. Qualifying for the King of the Hammers is just a secondary goal. I am really excited to be racing in this new class against such veteran drivers.”

The 2009 TSCO “Vegas to Reno” The long way race, is a 1,000 mile, three-day, staged off road desert race hosted by the “Best in the Desert” (http://www.bitd.com) New for this year is the introduction of the 4400 class in which Travis Carpenter is running the 4405 car.

Travis’s 4405 buggy has been masterfully built by Dan Trout of Fishmouth Fabworks. Already featured prominently at various competitions, events, trail work parties, trail rides and even parades, the vehicle turns heads and has gained much attention due to its outstanding craftsmanship.

As part of the team’s commitment to land-use issues, the vehicle will also be running various land-use decals to help educate OHV users on proper use and to keep our public lands open to the public. According to manager Kurt Schneider, “This rig is more than just a race buggy, we are using it as an educational tool to illustrate to the general public that responsible OHV use does little to no damage to the actual environment. We are also currently working to run the rig on all bio-degradable fluids including gear oil, motor oil and bio-degradable ATF”

The SPOT unit is now all set up.

When travis or Trout hit the "OK" button it texts and e-mails everyone on the team that they are good.

If they hit "HELP", everyone on the chase team (and me) will get a text saying the rig may be down.

Make sure they buy two ne pumps, and keep the spare in the buggy for tomorrow, they make have got some bad fuel, and its gonna eat the new pump too:(
And make sure they put a filter before the pump if they don't already have one, and if they do have one, change it, and the one after the pump in case the pump threw chunks of shit into it when it failed;)

they have two pumps wired and plumbed into the car with a toggle to switch over to the spare. not sure how they burned both but i hope they figure it out. tomorrow is a must finish or they are out. good luck guys.

Just got off the phone with Travis. Sent Goodby to Bishop to get new fuel pumps. They are currently in Tonopah.

Only have 1 hour to work on rig, then it has to go into impound. Can't even test run it.

Just talked to travis again. Goodby and lance should have the fuel pump to them in a few. Will put it in and drop the rig off at impound. They are waiting in the work area

Hey everyone. I actually have some service and little battery left, but just wanted to get on here and say thank you for all the love and support. Trav and trout and the pit crew appreciate. It been hotter then hell out here but very cool at night which is nice. I think it was 118 today from what I heard but being NV for 3 days now , I think we are getting use to it and drinking lots and lots of water. Anyway, we are just chillin right now waiting for the fuel pumps which should be here soon, then we will get to work and see what the problem is. I will deff take some pics as I hope everyone has been enjoying the ones I have been snding. I have a lot more on my big camera that will be posted up when we get back. Alright, gonna get back to drinking my coors light and takin care of the guys then go to town on the buggy. Thanks again everyone and we will keep you posted.

If they are running bikes and quads they leave about 5 30 am and they give them a 2 hour headstart (even though the class 1 and trophy trucks catch them ).Then you got 150 cars leaving 30-60 second apart .

Team just work up. IRC tracker as turned off. Heading to impound in a few. I will report back on which rigs did not make impound (if any)

They are a return system, I think Kurt is saying that something was wrong with the toggle between the two pumps...at least thats how I read it...

They need to figure out a way to pack the pump with ice, or at least get it to a cooler location... If the pump was just vapor locking, it should have started to work again when it cooled down...but if it got too hot all together...it could burn up completly...hopefully they changed the filter after the pump if that was the case.......

The original deal was: the first 10 to start day 3 would qualify for KOH.

I just wanted to say a few things real quick before I head to the store and finish this day with a few cold ones.

I am REALLY proud of the entire 4405 team.

It was Travis's first Desert race. I saw him last Friday and he was so excited and pumped to be in the race, that he was like a starving fat kid in a candy store. THAT kinda happy. For MONTHS this is all that he has talked about.

Trout is just "the man!" Months and months of toiling over that rig with Travis, making NO money on it. Cool as a cucumber at all times, an artist with a welder.....

and it was not just these two guys pouring thier heart and soul into making this race happen, it was Steph too (more than you can imagine. She has worked her ASS OFF), many of the Rock Zombies and even cooler: Trav's Dad, Steph's mom and dad... It was a family affair.

Goodby, Lance and Ryan took a week off work to help out as support, and worked thier asses off.

A lot of people helped to make this race a realitiy for the 4405 rig. Sorry i can't name EVERYONE.

This team is full of just REALLY GOOD PEOPLE that I am happy to have met.

I am proud of all of you. Great work.
