I have a chance to buy this vortec v6 out of a 1994 or 1995 s10. the only thing is i have never seen this kind of vortec. it has a crazy looking manifold and the throttle body is pointing towards the front of the truck. any help identifying this engine would be helpful.(is it tpi, cbi, etc.

Yeah, that's the 4.3 CPI, same engine as I have. It has one injector and made pretty good power. I heard that Chevy changed to sequencial port injection because of emmissions, but not confirmed. I'd prefer to have the TBI engine just because it seems to be more reliable. The CPI was mainly offered in 94 and 95, although they were used in some Blazers as early as 92 I believe.

That's an L35 W code motor. Not a bad little motor. Started in 93 officially. You can identify the heads on those motors as they have a little indentation at the top of the intake runner on the intake surface of the head. Earlier ones didn't have this, later ones (LF6 X motor) have the angle bolt holes and taller intake runners.

The intake on these motors is pretty crazy, with the plenum size changing based on computer control. Beasty cast aluminum piece sorta resembling a TPI intake (runners etc). There is an SAE paper on the whole thing actually.

It was the first 4.3 to have a balance shaft as well.

The later ones are difficult to make big upgrades to, since they have goofy injector setups.

Hope that helps a bit more.
