I have my trailer parked on the street and just went out to get it and the lock I had on it has been cut/gone  I am using a regular master lock and it goes through the part on the trailer that releases/catches on the ball (if that makes any sense). So what are you guys using for theft prevention? I dont know if I am just going to go put another lock on it. I would hate to come out one morning and see the whole trailer gone.

This is the easy way:

They have a bunch of other locks, as well, but I'm less impressed with them:

These will really only stop a hobbyist thief, though... you gotta be more creative to stop a serious thief, and given enough time, a professional thief is gonna have your stuff regardless.

I believe there have been some other threads on this before in the General 4x4 Forum... the one that I remembered that seemed most secure involved a massive eye-bolt set into concrete, and chain wrapped around the trailer axles. Dunno how the city would feel about you putting a chain-pocket into the street, tho. :p

Actually, the best one I have seen... is a tire boot for your trailer.
It bolts on to on 1-2 of your trailers lug nuts. the locking mechanism bolts to the bracked that bolts on to the lug nuts and operates like a standard boot. the bracket covers the lugnuts so they just can't unbolt the entire assembly.
I forget where I saw it though. :(
I use the lock Randii posted a picture of - one of the more heavy duty ones I have seen.
I agree - some kind of method to lock the tires/wheels is probably the best way to go. Seems a little time with a torck/plasma and some steel and welding and you could make a nice lock system that would keep both tires on the trailer from moving, and still be relatively easy to work with.

What about pintle hooks and Budd wheels? If you want the trailer, take it...

I use a tongue lock, and also a chunk of hardend chain thru the spokes on the tires. Dual to Dual. I have a hardened lock also. I tried a 4' set of boltbiters on it, will hardly make a mark.
