: Just how light does my rig have to be to run tire pressure like this???
SAR_Sammy 09-16-2002, 04:41 PM Tim Hardy School of Tire Pressure
Got Traction??
His friends tease him that he does not need a tire pressure gage, he needs a barometer to check pressure
He really does wheel almost this low.. (about 1 to 2 pounds)
Anyone whom has seen him wheel can atest to this...
Mike
DemoMike 09-16-2002, 04:50 PM From that pic I'm guessing he measures in "inches of water" (as in vacuum).
DemoMike 09-16-2002, 04:51 PM Is that mustard dog in the background?
spencurai 09-16-2002, 04:53 PM tim has to have the most hammered zuk in existence!!!:flipoff2:
SAR_Sammy 09-16-2002, 05:00 PM Yes that is either Taz or Cici (see-see) roaming the box
To Tim "Sheet Metal is no hindrance"
Sat night Tim broke
Right front Burf
Left front hub blew out all 6 bolts
Pitman arm cracked open (sector shaft just spun around in the splines
Winch gave up when it overheated
Hence we had to get him out of the box with no steering and rear drive only
He had everything repaired and ready to go home by 8am the next morning and he found a few hours sleep in the night

SAR_Sammy 09-16-2002, 05:07 PM last time
Heck, smear a little body filler on it and drop it off at Maico and it'll look brand new!
westside 09-16-2002, 06:43 PM 1-2 psi with no beadlocks!? Does he blow beads often?
Dychen 09-16-2002, 10:43 PM Tim gets it. Was that crack line I seen in one of those pics?

That's the first time I have heard of someone else outside of AZ doing this.

I think he has been running Tigged saftey beads for 4 or 5 years, maybe more.
If I'm still able to put my doors on after running a tight trail, and have them fit, I consider it a good day. I don't think a set of doors are gonna fit that red Zuk very well...... or windshield!:p

OK, they are welded. There's a guy down here who makes them out of fiberglass and epoxy, easier to smooth out. He's been making his since before I started wheeling back in 98. Originally he intended them to compliment an outer set of beadlocks since everyone started loosing the inner beads.
He is either starting that truck alot, or using the ol' starter crawl trick....
That truck looks fine to me!

Give us a blow by blow:D
It looks to me the rr tire has blow the bead, thats why it appears so "low" in pressure, if you look closely around the wheel you can see where the bead has been pushed away. And being those are radials I would be afraid of putting any real pressure back into those bfgs, there are surely broken belts not to mention the inner sidewall damage that may be happening from rubbing the body/frame...

Tim runs real low pressure. Thats what this Thread is about.
The fact that these tires are Fawked is desirable for Tim. He will buy a set of tires, pull the stems , and drive on the road for 20 minutes to break down the belts in the tires. This alows them to really flex over rocks and allow him maximum traction.
Down fall: ground clearance.
Rabid Rhino 09-18-2002, 10:39 AM I'm count myself lucky enough to have passengered Tim on several trips in Moab in that rig which by the way is his wifes.
He can tell what psi he's airing down to just by feeling the rush of air coming out of the valve.
For Upper Heldorado he was at zero psi & got to the waterfall at the end in about 15 to 20 minutes which included him goofing off & me getting out and snapping some pics for UK mags.
As to the knackered body work it cracks me up when you realise he's a professional car restorer working on 50+ year old motors. A rusted out wreck goes to him and leaves better than new.
