A CV only works if the pinion on the differential is pointed directly at the transfer case. You note that you added 5" of lift... did you also rotate the axle housings so that CV joints will work? If you rotated the front housing you will also have to deal with caster issues.

Get a front CV from a Toyota mini truck - you may have to re-drill the pinion flange to make it work - BTW, I have a mini truck CV in the back of my V8 FJ40 and it is plenty strong - Jesse at High Angle Driveline in Paradise CA (onetonecv on this board) re-worked it so that it's operating angle was increased! The CV bolts line up the early 3 speed transfer case drum studs. Jesse can re-drill your 75 parking drum to match the mini truck CV pattern. HTH. Andy

I rotated the front down 6 degrees and the rear up 6 it drives pretty good exept I notice some wear marks on my yoke that is at the transfer case. so a friend said I need a cv .he has a cruiser with 5.5 inch lift and he needed one so instead of $350.00 i wanted to keep it closer to a 100.00 by cutting a chevy cv. what do you think?

chevy c/v's suck- but they do! for 100$ you get what you pay for- if you had an ifs shaft to begin with its 140.00 plus redrilling the drum- Jess :D

And why did you rotate the pinion down 6 degrees?????

A CV works well when the pinion is pointed directly at the tcase..

Nothing is going to work well with the pinion pointing down.
It sounds like you need to cut and turn your knuckles..

To get decent caster I would guess. Like Jason said, cut and turn time...

I talked to alot off people about it and they said with 5" lift ineed 6 so that it doesn't drive into the ground because I don't have steering correction or shakle reverse.

i recently did a 4 inch spring plus 1.5 inch shackle lift. I needed a CV shaft, which ran $225 including shipping (so less for a local job i guess) from tom wood's shafts (www.4xshaft.com). I angled the front 2.5 degrees, and the rear now needs to point directly at the TF output (about 4 degrees on my truck). I sent in my stock fj40 shaft and he reworked it with 48 hour turnaround.

this makes me wonder what I will run into when I lift my 40 :(

the V8 conversion moved the drivetrain about 4" forward and the guy that did the conversion did a good job welding and balancing the shafts but I fear all hell will break lose when I put a 4" sua lift on it.

I could research it till the cows come home, or just do it and see where I end up :flipoff2:
