Lookin at the 5 speed in a mid 90s ford. Has a diesel, Didnt look to see if it was the 6.9 or 7.3. Not even sure if they were both options for those years but wondered if that diesel bell housing was the same for a 460? Thats what ide like to use it for..

The patterns are not the same, the lower 4 boltholes and the dowel pins are located differently, and the diesel bell doesn't have the holes for starter mounting.
You can drill it to suit, it can and has been done, but, I definatley wouldn't reccomend that.
Also, the diesel transmissions have a 3.79 or 4.14 first gear, depending on the year, where the gasser trans will be 5.72

There are two versions of the ZF, the S5-42 (1307 casting) and the S5-47 (1317 casting) that will fit 3 different families of motors. The 47 I think will handle more torque(470# rating over 420#) and (maybe) has an internal throwout slave thingermabob. Diesels are close ratio, 4.14:1(S5-42) (5.08 S5-47), gassers are 5.72:1
This is a diesel trans with a 460 spacer.

The bell housings on the 5 speed models do not seperate from the tranny like the older 4 speed units do.

I'd love a spare gas ZF if someone has one to sell.
