Has anyone ever install a York compressor on a 6.2 GM military engine? This is the 24V engine so it has 2 altenators. If you have, can you provide some insight and maybe some pictures. Im thinking of putting this engine into a custom project but I'd like to know if this is possible. Your assistance is greatly appreciated.

Go buy a 12v 6.2 starter and get rid of one of the alternators. It'll give you a place to mount the compressor and make your life easier with anything else electrical you want to wire up(lights, guages, winch).

On the M1010 (Ambulance Version), a AC Compressor is installled in the engine compartment. Maybe you can find a M1010 as a donor for brackets etc.

We just did this exact thing today on a CUCV blazer. Got rid of the driver side alternator, and cut up the brackets to use for mounting the york. Lots of cutting and welding this way, but it fits in there pretty nice.

Wild willy,

Is the blazer a 24V vehicle? did you convert it to 12V? Anyway you can send me some pictures of your install?

Thanks for your reply.

its on my buds rig about an hour away from me. His is already converted to 12 volt..not really much room if you dont ditch one of your alternators. We ditched the driver side one. We made a plate and tensioner that bolts to the bottom of the alternator bracket, then cut and modded the top alternator bracket to bolt to the side of the York. You'll just have to decide where you can fit the york, buy a case of beer, and start whittling on the brackets until you get in fit in there to your liking. It wasnt easy on his, and it didnt turn out perfectly lined up, but it will work. I'll see if ican snap some pics next time I go wheeling with him.

I did pretty much the same thing as above (12v conversion, ditch the drivers side starter, hack at the brackets) except I used an A6 compressor. Has a seperate oil resevoir like a york, so no oiler/filter needed. Been running with it for a couple years, no issues yet, seems to make air just as fast as any of my friend's rigs with yorks. 4x 15/42-15 from 8lbs to 22lbs in 6 minutes flat at normal idle speed.
