: rear residual in stock CJ brake CV

OK, this should be an easy one, but can't find anywhere in any of the umpteen brake proportioning/combination valve threads where anyone actually says this. I've got an '85 CJ with a YJ booster and MC, and the stock CJ combination valve. I'm running chevy 1/2 ton calipers front and rear on my D44 and Eaton/14 bolt hybrid axles. Everything's good except the rear residual valve in the CV, that keeps pressure on the rear discs. Jack it up and press the brakes, feels good and everything's fine. then the rears don't fully release. The fronts are fine. If you crack a bleeder at one of the rear calipers they let go. Seems to me that the stock drum residual valve part of the CV is causing my problem. I've searched and searched and can't find anyone that says where the residual part of the valve is, or how to remove/disable it. There's lots about the metering section and proportioning and such, just nothing about residual. Seems to me like it'd have to be in that removable part at the rear output to me, but what do I know. Any help is appreciated.

Seriously, nobody? You know, for a bunch of guys who flame everyone for nearly everything that's been covered for the last ten years this should be an easy question...:flipoff2:

Remove the hard line for the rear brakes from the MC. Look in the hole and you will see a little brass valve inside with a small hole. Take a sheetrock screw and run it a couple of turns into that little hole in the brass valve. Grab the head of the screw with vise grips and pull out the valve and spring. Re-connect the brake line and bleed. Should work great now. T

Cool, thanks man! I was hoping there was something easy like that, but was planning on having to drill something out or worse. I'll post up a writeup on my build soon, so that there's some concrete tech on what worked for me that's less than 5 years old or better.
