I picked up a land rover from my grandpa who passed away 2 years ago. I pick it up at his estate sale. I think its a series 2 or 2a. I will be restoring it in the next few years. I need some help and info on it thanks.http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v722/RyansZr2/IMG_0336.jpg

The plates down under the dash below the manual throttle will tell you if it's a 2 or 2a. But looking at the photos I think it's an early 2a.
Welcome to the dark side.

Looking at the door tops will as well! If the doors are original and the door tops can be removed, it's a IIA, if not, it's a II. But, that was discussed on Dweb:flipoff2:.

What do you think its worth? And should I leave stock or mod the rover?

It is a IIa.
Koenig PTO winch on the front, factory ashtray (these get big $$$ on ebay), hand throttle, kodiak heater, pick up top.
If it were not a rusty POS it would be a great starting point. :flipoff2:

But it does have 11a scuttle vent levers and the vents themselves look to be spot welded on, which is IIa.

Looks like a regular station wagon top to me. The rear quarter windows are flat. The pickup's quarter window wrapped the corner. I don't think it's a Koenig winch, at least not a King.
What do you think its worth? And should I leave stock or mod the rover?Considering I used to buy them in much better shape for $250-$500, I think they are all overpriced these days. The only downside of L/R's re-entry to the US market. LOL
I'm always for leaving them stock, but I'm in the minority. I used to feel like mods were a reasonable route to go, but the old ones in original condition are getting harder to find.
