: Indy Jambo rockcrawl, Clear Channel?

Rumor has it that Clear Channel Communications is in negotiations with the fellow who puts on the rockcrawls in Indy and Canfield Jambos for organizing some indoor, arena-style rock stuff for next year. Supposedly the rules will be much different than normal, with spectator pleasing antics being the score getter. Reps from CCC were rumored to have been at the ProRock, Indiana event lurking and checking things out. The man who organizes the Indy and Canfield rock comps will supposedly be setting up the indoor courses and gathering rigs and drivers who have the right stuff if the deal goes through.

They (CCC) could be at Indy. Might be a good time to make a good impression.

Yup, Clear Channel does not put on competitions, they put on SHOWS. Just ask them. And rumor is that they're attempting to buy out Special Events. They'll run it into the ground just like everything else they touch.

I know all the stations in my hometown have been taken over by CCC. I'm not impressed with their work so far. Fired a bunch of people.

Anyway, if anyone is going to the Indy show, stop by the NTW tent at the Mean Green table and say yo. I'd enjoy BS'ing with a few of you off the board.

i'll be there, stop at the MG table huh? You work for them? Bring some big ass decals if you do, and I'll show you why when I get there Friday!

As far as the rock pile to play on.......... should I wear my 35" BFG's hoping to gain some favor with them, or slap the 37 MTR's on to score?

indoor what? Get real, rock crawling is a sport, when it becomes entertainment it will be all fawked up!

No, it's not Bob. Bob did do the first one over in Canfield in 2000, but since then, John at JB's 4x4 has been running them.

I'm only going to say this once. Supercrawl is in 4 weeks, DO NOT fuck that vehicle up beyond all recognition :D Also make sure to grab a MG alternator for your professional spotter, as his current alternator is old and tired. He'll grease paint "Mean Green" on himself while spotting at the Supercrawl to thank them :D

As much as everyone hates Bob, wait until you see what kind of mess Clear Channel (aka SFX, aka Pace Motor Sports) will make of things. The "casual fan" won't notice a thing. The true enthusiast will want to :barf:

I rep for them. So, you want a decal? No problem. Stop on by and I'll hook you up.

Bigdude: I don't have all the part numbers on the site (www.mad4wd.com), but call Larry at 330.757.3334 if you need MG products. We sell them at a discount compared to everyone else. The site is still a work in progress.

I take it you've had to deal with CCC at Jambos or monster truck shows. I think you're right, at least Bob is/was an enthusiast and has some understanding of what the competitors want.

whew, at least i'm not the only one with a bitter hatred for Clear Channel.

Clear channel is like the third reich of the Radio Communications industry. Seriously. Almost all the stations in my area were bought out by clearchannel. and since i lived in rural PA at the time, they all thought, farm towns=rednecks=country music.

A friend of mine is actually planning on going to court against clear channel. We went to the office of one of his favorite stations that was taken over by CCC, and asked to see their public file. (which by FCC guidelines, they have to show it to him, no questions asked) first thing, "Why do you want to see it?", and then the station manager (if you looked up cunt in the dictionary, you'd find her picture) basically denied his request.

This was dumb, because if this goes all the way to the supreme court, it'll be like Microsoft's antitrust suit, only MUCH worse. He's so pissed, that he's already rallied the financial backing to buy back all the stations in my area that have been taken over. He's also very good friends with all the people that got fired/replaced by clearchannel, and he's got tons of support. He's just waiting for the right time. If he plays his cards right, the FCC will investigate and call for early renewal on their licenses, he can then fight that, (with simply the denial of the public file access, that's a big no-no) and buy their licenses (very inexpensively, basically ass-raping them)

once word of this gets out. I believe (and HOPE) that CCC will basically self destruct.

If there's anyone on here that wants to see something similar happen in their area, i'll point him to the board, and start a topic in Gen Chit-Chat. you don't even need to buy out the stations, just run them up for early renewal.

I'm glad to see this animosity toward CCC is not just in my area. Good local stations with popular local shows have been replaced with automation systems and repeaters, and their stations do nothing for the community (one of the requirements of a radio station by LAW is to benefeit the community it serves)

can't wait to see them crumble.

Not at the Jamborees as those are still controlled by Special Events. But, yes at the Monster Truck "shows" - don't call them races. The winners are pre-determined each night, as are 99% of the crashes.

I've also seen them buy out the nice series that USA Motorsports put on & then just eliminate the series completely. This is their standard method of operation. Buy out the competition & then rather than take over, they just shut it down. Anyone remember the 4XFunFests? They ruined those too. Petersens ran 'em a year or two & then let Pace take over. Took them all of a year to destroy that & end the series.

They not only own numerous TV & radio stations, they also essentially "own" much of the content that they broadcast including sporting events. And if given enough leway, they'll turn every major sporting activity into their own personal version of WWF.

Now, within their organization they do have a lot of dedicated INDIVIDUALS who really do care about the "little guy", and who truely believe that what they're doing is a good thing - even if I don't agree. They also have some true dickheads at the top (talked to a few myself) who don't give a damn about anything or anyone but themselves.
