RUN FOREST RUN

I recently purchased an ole' beater 1979 GMC truck so my non mechanically inclined self could learn to work on it. It had a homemade lift on it when I bought it ( 8" front and rear blocks) which I have replaced with a superlift 6" lift (front and rear springs). The front drive shaft was broken when I bought it, supposedly from the home made lift. I am looking at new drive shafts and wondered if anyone can tell me... Do I need a "high clearance" front driveshaft with 6" of lift? Or can I use a stock shaft?

A lengthened stock shaft should do fine, depending on what trans/t-case combo you have, there may be a stock shaft that will work, what's broken on the old shaft? You may be able to rebuild it, although if the same Darwin Award candidate that build teh 8" front lift block lift modified teh driveshaft you may want to put great distance between yourself and that shaft.

if the yokes are find and the tube is the problem you can just have a shop re-tube it for pretty cheap. the local guy that built my shafts was going to re-tube my old beater for 50 bucks, tho he ended up canning the whole sha-bang because the slip was shot. anyways just a thought. oh and what's "high clearance"? something those homemade 8" boys came up with? that kick in the end of the tube is NOT supposed to be there :D
