Ok I'll try to explain this, Donner Ski Ranch is a resort that provides services, such as food and drink, they also employ an additional vendor for these services on the hill, so they have the concessions for the event and their request is to protect those concessions. It's the same if you go to nearly any race track, movie theater, concert, football/baseball game etc.
If you wish to bring your own stuff we just ask you to picnic in the parking lot.
Rich
IronBenderII 09-17-2002, 10:48 PM So this isn't a normal thing, that's cool. I like having vendors at your gigs (wish they were @ Amador last year). But it's nice to be able to bring your own stuff so you don't waste money that should be spent on your rig. Thanks for the reply and see you there!

oh man, here it starts................
even DISNEYLAND allows ics chests............

whitetoy 09-18-2002, 07:33 AM Its a long walk, UPHILL, from the parking lot to the site. You'll be GLAD you didn't have an ice-chest to carry.
Live a little and spend a few bucs at the concession stand.
Funny how guys don't think twice about a grand for an Air Locker, then bitch about 4 bucs for a burger. :D
Big Rich 09-18-2002, 08:11 AM Yes, it is a uphill walk, so we will have 2 vans from Thompsons Jeep/dodge to use as shuttles, for those who need a ride.
Sorry we can't please everyone, I remember all the complaints about us even charging admission.
go figure
Rich

I don't whine about carrying an icechest.......
and, I take it that since no ice chest's are allowed, no beer will
be allowed either?
remember, I'm a spectator, not a participant.
if they do not allow any alcohol into the event, that's one thing.
if they SELL THEIR BEER at the lodge, that's another thing,
but forbay you to bring in your own beer, that blows...........
I like the more common way to do it:
NO GLASS BOTTLES.
NO CANS.
but icechest's are allowed...........

Big Rich 09-18-2002, 08:19 AM Sherpa.....you have valid points, but I'm only leasing the land, which by the way is hard to come by. On a positive side we did find a new event site even closer to Sacramento yesterday. And I think we will even be able to have a beer sponsor and vendor at this site, but alas, it will have to wait until next years schedule.
Rich
SHERPA 09-18-2002, 08:39 AM Rich,
I'm not bagging on you at all, I think you put on a great event.
The food/concession/beer issue is more for the site-owner-
club host as for means of fund-raising.
I have a drag boat fan for more than 25 years. I've seen those
events go from bring in a wagon full of beer, to no bottles* (good
idea on that one) to no cans, (starting to cut in) to no ice chests/
no food at all. and that sucked.
it's kind of like this:
gas to drive to the event: 40+ bucks.
T-shirt to buy: 20 bucks.
event ticket: 12-20 bucks.
event parking: 5 bucks.
hamburger/lunch/soda 8 bucks.
--------------------
93 bucks for one dude....
Keith Strong 09-18-2002, 08:43 AM FULLSIZE and I will be there!
IronBenderII 09-18-2002, 08:52 AM As long as this doesn't become a regular thing, I'm cool with it. But we're a family of 5 and there is a reason we don't go to Disneyland often. And it's not the $4 hotdog that bugs me. It's the fact that I know that it only costs $0.25 to make it including labor that pisses me off.
I say (not that I have any pull by myself but I'm sure there are others that agree with me) in the future, have the vendors out there selling their stuff and allow people to bring their own. If the vendors keep their prices within reason instead of trying to make their porsche payment they'll do great. But if you take away all of their competition (ie the icechest) there is nothing to hold back their prices (ie the movies).
Rich, you're kickin ass and as soon as you have a sportsman class where I can run my EB for the fun of it, I'm there with you. Until then I'm on the sideline cheering the guys on and having fun with the family...
-Jack
Glenn 09-18-2002, 09:16 AM Well, I hope that same hotdog vendor will be there again. Those were the best darn hotdogs I've ever had at any event. They were huge... And I didn't think the price was too much either...
I watched several guys struggle to get their ice chests up that hill. I tell ya, at that altitude, it's hard enough just to get yourself up there. Draggin a chest full of stuff, you'd be draggin ass by the time you got up to the comp area... :D
I was heading down to get something from my truck when I passed this one guy dragging his overloaded ice chest up the hill. He had stopped near the top, to catch his breath one more time, when I told him, 'Oh, no ice chests allowed up there'... I thought he was gonna have a stroke right there. 'Just kidding', I told him. Hehehe!!!! He was too tired to chase me so he threw a couple rocks at me as I scampered down the hill.
Belly Dragger 09-18-2002, 09:26 AM I'll be there!
