nice flex though, isnt that amount of droop a little hard on the main leaf of the 1/4 ellip pack? The main leaf looks almost verticle. I cant wait to hit Tellico next month. D44 parts are gonna fly WOOHOO!

That is Tellico, but it's not Lower 2 (kinda looks like it), actually it's the backside of 11, just up from Helicopter Pad, right past where 11 and 12 come together.

UH?? Helped a lot, his WB is 115 inches and he's running a dodge 60 w/ the dually spacers and MRT beadlocks so his front axle is like 8 ft wide...he needed that much articulation for being that wide and long. His front right tire was on that wall face. He wasn't tippy at all.

Ummm, I dunno, looks a lot more like extremely excessive body-roll than "flex".

That right rear isn't even on the ground even though where buddy is standing looks pretty level to me.

Admittedly, I don;t know that spot, and maybe the left front drops off and there's a huge rock under the right front....but whatever it is, that suspension sucks for that terrain - look at those guys having to hold the body off the rocks.

How silly - someone built it for the ramp to find out it's not so good in the rough.

What are those - 0.5" BS rims

The backside of 11 is cool. Put passenger side driver up high on the right hand side and let it drop off as you go around the big rock on the left that gets peoples rockers and doors.

I was standing right there and all that flex was serving no purpose except allowing his tire to smash into the sheetmetal. The front was not flexed AT ALL (I walked down and looked). The breakdown of that little quarter elliptic went like this- No limiting straps, no sway-bar, and his shackles attached on the axle to about 10" long SLIDERS. That's right, once the 1/4 elliptic spring fell with no limit until the main leaf was maxed, it then had another 10" for the shackle to slide in a bracket. That kind of design is pointless and does NO GOOD.

Ok, i agree with you. all i was saying is that when you HAVE 8feet wide axles you need something that can articulate a whole bunch. He's running a front dodge dually 60 with the spacers on it. It's a very long axle.

ill be the first to point out where he went wrong.

too much rear steer
no straps
those shackle sliders had like 10 inches off play (like you said)
AND he could NEVER keep that front axle down (especially on lower 2), b/c of sooo much articulation in the rear....
**BUT** he did walk up lower 2 with ease and went over some HUGE rocks while doing it. It could have performed a LOT better if he had put some more though into it though...

Basically i guess my point was when you have front and rear axles that are longer than 8feet your gonna have to make a very effective articulating suspension...his articulates a lot...but not very smart.

Decent flex is when you can flex a tire ontop of an object the same size or greater than that of the tire itself w/o lifting another tire..
Case in point:
Heres a picture of my rig with the DD 33"s on it parked on a 39" rock. *tallest i could find on my lunch break*. Flex is so so, the rear is realy close to picking up. But this is well enough to get me where ever i point the nose.

If your axles are that wide, and mounted under a narrow-framed vehicle like a YJ, it WILL have articultion of the tires, since 1" of movement at the spring will equal a much larger amount at the tires... That rear-end, as you agreed, needs a MAJOR re-do.
