chromewontgetyouhome 05-12-2010, 02:28 AM Any more info? If its true thats fooked!
I heard it from Hwnscout that they were out of buisness, but when I went there to get some tube, I saw the burned up taco. I would say if they had no insurance and burned up a $35,000 truck, they are done.
NOT TRUE AT ALL! they actually moved to pearl city industrial. its crazy how rumors fly! LOL!
chromewontgetyouhome 06-03-2010, 02:03 AM So did they pulehu a Tacoma?
Never seen a burned up taco at the waipio shop. maybe it was an insurance thing or something but im sure they would be totally out of business if they did burn up someones taco.
Hugo_Stiglitz 06-04-2010, 04:35 PM :lmao: @ pulehu
The taco was blue with some kind of long travel ifs and no bed. I saw that B. The whole passenger side dash was melted on the floor and the engine bay was toast.:smokin: I tried to ask about it but he just ignored what I said. If they moved to pearl city, thats cool, cuz I need some short pieces of DOM soon.
TXROCK 06-12-2010, 04:00 AM yeah....I had a buddy tell me that John burned up a guys Toyota and was out of business with the doors closed. But then I came across someone else I know who said "yes, the burned vehicle is true with part of the dash burned, but he is not out of business and moved to the industrial district of Pearl City".
Haven't had time to go look, but the second person is having ongoing work done and speaking with John regularly.

Just checking but isn't the 10th a Sunday ? Would be interested in the run , just wanted to make sure on dates and stuff ! Let me know , mahalo
That was last year.
I have been trying to get a hold of OK but nothing coming up. website is down and mailbox is full. I had been told they were in pearl city ind. as well, but I don't want to make a trip there just to find out if they are still open. Anyone have a solid word on OK's situation?
Macnutt 09-13-2010, 07:44 PM They are in pearl city industrial right up the road from my shop , there next to fastenal ! You'll see the jeeps out front . Last year , I was ready to get some guys together .

This. :flipoff2:
Stopped by OK yesterday. The guy I talked to said that OK is out of buisness, but there is another shop opening in the same location. He also said they will be stocking some DOM tubing.
Someone bought the shop from John cuz he moved back to the mainland. I think the guys gonna change the name but keep the same spot in pearl city industrial.
motorthrills 10-03-2010, 07:36 PM So who else is stocking DOM tubing on island in the mean time? I would like some 1 3/4" x .120".... mahalos in advance!!!!

I need some as well.
Oahu Krawlers 01-07-2011, 07:34 PM To set aside some rumors... This is John... Owner of Oahu Krawlers... We are and have for some time been closed. We did burn up a new taco. Insurance covered it. I had plans to leave the Island and could not delay them. After moving to Pearl City OK was turned over to new management. Starting from roughly $8,000 negative on the books they were able to push the business over 50k in the red during that time. I took responsibility and paid it. All debts incurred during that time to my knowledge are paid. OK is no more and anyone claiming to be is more than likely the ones that sunk it. Any customer from our Waipahu location can speak to the shops character. As far as DOM
Fusion Werks in Campbell used to carry it. Thanks ya'll... From all of us at the (Original) Oahu Krawlers...
Thanks for clearing it up John. Are you looking to open another shop?
Laffy 01-26-2011, 09:39 AM Anyone know of any other good 4x4 shops on Oahu?
dirtchicken 01-26-2011, 02:11 PM What exactly are you looking for?
Laffy 02-23-2011, 07:49 AM I am looking to put in some new axles and a lift. I want to do it my self but I don't trust my welding skills enough. Right now I am looking at putting in a ford 8.8 rear from ECGS and a HP 30 in the front and looking at a clayton 5.5" lift.
TXROCK 03-16-2011, 01:04 AM Maui Off-Road is the main 4x4 shop for fabrication....although you could probably find plenty of local shops to weld your stuff as well.

I have heard some not so nice things about Maui offroad. Plan B is opening a shop in Kaneohe. See the thread in this forum.

they are just high in price....most of the stuff you can do yourself for a fraction of what they charge.
wavesailr 03-18-2011, 08:37 PM Maui Offroad is a complete ripoff and their quality of work SUCKS!!
I had them install an AllPro Extreme Lift kit on my 1985 Toyota pickup. The welding was done by someone who had obviously never welded before.
Here’s my list of deficiencies that they were given the opportunity to rectify (but didn't):
• The rear spring mounts (using orbit eyes) were welded on crooked.
• Front shock mounts were only 25% booger welded.
• Bumpstops not installed.
• Brake system not bled after installing longer front and rear brake lines (I noticed this while trying to get onto the H1).
• Power steering box mounted without using the mounting plate or reinforcement sleeves (which they never returned to me). A couple hundred miles later, the frame was cracked where they tried to mount the steering box using stock bolts.
• Rear axle not rotated correctly causing the differential pinion seal and transfer case seals to self destruct. After rotating and re-welding the rear perches myself everything ran smooth.
• The Tom Woods rear driveshaft that I ordered from them was faulty. It was missing the center ball of the CV joint and wasn't even balanced. I'm not 100% convinced it was even a Tom Woods shaft, I just can't prove it...
Needless to say, after wasting several thousand dollars at Maui Offroad just to install the kit, I learned to weld and ended up redoing everything myself. Actually, I should thank Maui Offroad for forcing me to learn to weld.
Is that enough information to steer you away from Maui Offroad. Spread the Aloha...

I was in the same boat as you a few years ago when a local shop charged me $300 in labor to weld a $100 frame brace on my 79 Chevy. After that I said "fuck it" went out and bought a welder and some books and learned how to DIY. It's all to common with alot of the so-called "fab shops" over here, way over priced for work that belongs in the booty fab thread.
