I am looking at putting a 5.2l magnum motor out of a 2001 ram in my jeep, I am running an atlas t-case with the stock 231 bolt pattern I believe it is 23 spline input shaft. what would be a good transmission? I was thinking a 727 but is there a 727 that will just bolt up to my t-case without having to get an expensive adapter? thanks in advance

Same pattern.

The problem with the 727 is the length of the TC adapter, its fairly long, and may limit your rear driveshaft. You could piece together a 904 with a Jeep Dana 300/231 tailshaft/housing that will be a little shorter, and the 904/999 has a lower 1st gear (2.74 vs 2.45) than a 727. Behind a 5.2 in a Jeep the 904/999 will be plenty strong. Another option would be a 46RH trans from a 95 or earlier Grand Cherokee with a 5.2. This will give you OD as well. If you go the OD route, make sure to get the starter, flex plate, and Torque converter from the GC as well, as it is on the Pass side of the motor instead of the driver's side on the Dodge. Its not a big thing, but it also gives you more room around the front driveshaft. The local pick a parts around here are chock full of first gen Grand Cherokees, so cores are cheap and easy to get.

thanks, I will start looking at the junkyard to find a good trans. Is the 46rh electronic?

the 46rh is hydraulic, the 46re is electronic
