im saving up all my money to buy new gears and 1ton axles. i calculated that i need 4.88 gears to spin my 39.5 boggers but decided i should hear what yall had to say. i plan on mainly driving through mud but want to learn how to drive over rocks. right now i have a small block with about 400hp, but it was built for drag racin and doesnt have outstanding bottom end torque. i also have a th350 and 203. also have yall heard of adapters that mate two transfer cases together? if so where do you get them?

Ok here we go, 4.88's will work fine I would probably do 5.13's but that's a mater of preferance. The adapters for 2 transfer cases put a 203 and a 205 together, I got mine from WMS. WMS (http://www.wagonermachine.com/)

also check out www.offroaddesign.com , they make the adapters as well and don't rape you for quite as much as WMS.

You'd probably be fine with 4.88's and that much horsepower. I'm going to be running 36's on with 4.88's soon, but I still have a stock 4.3 V6. I know a guy with a mildy built 350 in his YJ, he was running 4.10's with 39.5's and it was decent, but someone told me recently that he swapped in a 60 and 14 bolt and now he's got 4.88's

Keep in mind a lot of the 1tons have a carrier break at 4:56. Replacing carriers gets expensive unless your gonna get a locker anyways. 14FF are nice because the detroits are cheap and thick gears are available all the way to 5:13.

What a loser you are you should just get a truck as cool as mine and you wouldn't have to get all that fancy crap.

I have 4.88 and 39.5 and really like the combo with a turbo 700 241 t case and tbi small block. I drove 4 hrs each way to Rubicon doing 65-70 no problem. But I have an over drive.
