I just got my new DSA receiver. How far should the barrel thread into the receiver by hand before it gets tight?? Mine goes about 1/4" and gets real tight? Is this normal?

Thanks

The shoulder of the barrel should thread all the way to the face of the receiver.

Your barrel has an alignment mark on the top. Basically the little cut out notch that's at the 12:00 position on the barrel shoulder.

Again, you should be able to thread your barrel all the way to the receiver. When the barrel shoulder contacts the receiver such that it can no longer be turned by hand, the alignment notch should be at the 10:45-11:00 position when looking down the barrel from the muzzle end.

This is called "hand timing" of the barrel. Once it is hand-timed correctly, then you'll want to use the appropriate receiver wrench to torque the receiver so that the alignment notch on the barrel is facing directly up, or at the 12:00 position on the receiver.

If your barrel cannot thread onto a receiver at all, clean out the threads and try again. If it still will not thread in, it may be improperly cut threads, or an inch-to-metric mix-up...

I put it in a vice and I can turn it alomost all the way but it is real tight by hand. I have cleaned it with acetone and wirebrushed the barrel. Not put a wrench on it yet to see how far it will go with a wrench by hand with out a pipe etc.

It loosened up enough to turn it down by hand. Must have been the heavy park on the threads.

:mad3::mad3:It stopped at 9:30 though!! Now I have some work to do on the shoulder....

What did you pay for your reciever? I've had an fal kit laying around for a long time but never got around to buying a reciever. Maybe you can go through all the trouble now and help me out when the time comes. :D
