I figure with so many people showing what they are doing I would throw a couple of pictures in.
I got my front spring pacs in and it sits nice and tall now.

The highlift is to balance out the front as one side has new spring pac and the other don't. Hope to have better pics soon.

Dang,

My shiat must be crap - Not one of you has even made a simple coment like - when the fawk is it going to be done or your shiat sux - go home newbie. The lack of comments makes me assume I should scrap the whole thing and go buy a Jeep.

JUST WHEEL THE DAMN THING!!!

Some parts still missing. no drive lines. No steering. have brake issues too. But they will be corrected soon. I shot last saturday wheeling instead of building this rig. Did Highrider - it was fun.

Highrider will be a lot more fun when you are behind the wheel...

Dents in those endcaps are a bugger to pull out, aren't they?

Pat, they were a bugger to get at, BUT in a few days that will not be a problem. Once I have the trimming done on the back half it will be real easy to put the port-a-power in there and be done in short order. The port-a-power is real nice and with my number 9 wackenknocker set I can pull almost anything I would every want to. The holes that are there were my first attempts at body work in over 25 years with a poor excuse of a slide hammer. that will not happen again. Dad gave me most of his body tools since he is now retired. And just like riding a bike it does come back to you. I just had to fall a couple of times.

Brian,

I don't know your wheeling experiance, but wouldn't a "simpler" area like Reider be better??? Or are you closer to Highrider...

what time/when this weekend?? I *might* be able to find some time Sunday (need to get out and get my FIX )

Gee, I had no idea beavis or Butthead knew what a wackenknocker was. it is cool

I love to wack things with it. It has so much power it can be a little scary. :D

Mark,

I don't do nice body work - I do trail ready body work. It's easy and I can use my 10 lb sledge hammer :flipoff2: Just ask Hip how it felt to watch me hit his Jeep with it.;)

I got a number 9 wackenknocker - what do you have?

next time use a torch and some cold water, you would be amazed on how the dents come out, then use a slide hammer:D

I'm not a body man. So, I heat the area with the torch, then hit it with water? The cold shrinks the metal and pulls the dent out, or...

Was out of gas - lame excuss but its all I got.

Someone else had tried to get the dents out with a slide hammer too before I even got it. I was just playing along at the time. Now that I am getting closer to having a real rig. I will get a little more serious about some dent removal. Don't want it too nice - else I might cry when it flips over pulling out of my yard. :D

Pat your going to have to come by sometime when I am beating this thing. I'll show you the torch and water trick. i got other tricks too. Remember I grew up doing body work the old school ways. Of course there is some cool stuff available these days too.

I almost forgot to say - I would never refer to my wackenknocker as a mear slide hammer. It's old school like me and almost as heavy as me. I learned how to pull with this thing long before we ever had a port-a-power. It still has many capabilities that can't be touched by any other tool. It can go places not many tools can get to.

Do I sound biased on my opinion?
Yes, I love the old tools I got from my dad. He taught me many things about these tools when I was growing up.

my brother showed me that one a while back, it worked sweet, he then used a this tool that had little sticks that he spot welded on, then attached this small slide hammer tool thingy and slide slammed the rest of the dent out. it worked sweet on the end caps. I'll talk to him end get the name of the tool.

You can also do the same type of thing with welding small nails on and then grinding them off when your done. That tool (the name evades me too) was one of the things I was hoping to get from Dad when he retired but - the bugger sold it. They are not cheap. But they work real nice.

Ya, I'm a loser too. The floor project keeps me sane... I have finally aquired all my HySteer components (with 2 sets in spare)..

someone want to give more details on the water and torch trick??

harkinoff
09-19-2002, 11:11 AM
you get the dented area hot, then hit it with cold water, it shrinks the metal. you work the dent from all angles. ;) believe me, it won't take most dents all the way out, but it will take the work out of it some

Hummmm

I wonder if the wife would go for me getting her a Stud Gun for an anniversary. :flipoff2: I bet she would at least like the name of it. She likes tools and building stuff.

Hummmm
Maybe I should get her one. She might let me used it if I fix her stuff first. :D

Thanks for the info.
